LOCATION: Versailles, KY
This position offers the flexibility of remote work or the option to be based at any of our various office locations, depending on the candidate’s preference and the company needs.
Job Summary:
Prepares quotes for the customer for printing their educational and trades books, which meet the dual goals of a competitive price for the customer and a fair profit for the company.
The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Review and evaluate customer specs and needs, sometimes creating specs from a customer supplied book sample.
- Confer with the customer, sales, or Customer Service Representative to clarify quote request information.
- Determine the best plan for running a job.
- Calculate material costs by determining the quantity of paper, ink and plates required: calculate the cost of machine time and processing in the Prepress, Press and Bindery departments.
- Request subcontract pricing from outside vendors/Business Solutions Group.
- Obtain standards for out-of-spec jobs from manufacturing departments.
- Figure press run combination capabilities.
- Obtain freight charges for shipping or mailing finished printed matter.
- Obtain postage/co-mail estimates.
- Maintain department files.
Basic Qualifications:
- Associates’ degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to a year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective communication skills (interpersonal, oral, written and phone)
- Complete understanding of the entire print process, from Prepress, Press, Bindery and Shipping.
- Ability to anticipate customer needs and desires to exceed their expectations.
- Strong attention to details and orientation for preventing errors and solving problems.
- Must have the ability to prioritize workload received from multiple sources.
- Time management skills and strong organizational skills with the ability to meet and maintain deadlines.
- Excellent math, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to understand and follow established pricing procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Able to apply common sense understanding and use appropriate judgment in routine business situations with supervisor, co-workers, and customers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) at an intermediate to advanced level. Training will be provided on specific systems required.
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Prior experience in Estimating, and experience in printing or graphic arts.
- Knowledge of book printing, pricing systems, markups, and job costing preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Minimal travel for company meetings, etc.
