Position Summary:
Our Barrie Transit team is seeking an Accounting Manager (Contract). The Accounting Manager manages the division’s financial activities; prepares or directs the preparation of reports summarizing and forecasting company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings, based on past, present, and expected operations. The Accounting Manager also oversees the AP/AR and payroll department to ensure accurate and timely completion.

The following is not intended to be a comprehensive list of the essential functions of the Accounting Manager position, but rather a general description of some of the requirements necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of this position. The Accounting Manager must be able to perform the following tasks, among others:
- Prepares and ensures timely delivery of monthly billing to client
- Analyzes and prepares annual budgets
- Prepares budget amendments
- Reviews division financials to ensure Corporate profitability expectations are met; seeks ways to reduce costs or increase revenue
- Authorizes the disbursement of funds, recognizes, and resolves issues promptly
- Conducts periodic studies to determine the effectiveness of current financial control methods
- Supervises the maintenance of essential accounting records and files
- Maintains a running analysis of accounts; recognizes and ensures entries in General Ledger entries are complete and accurate; advises of differences or discrepancies
- Liaises with US Parent Company on a regular basis to provide financial updates and ensure matters are handled in accordance to Company policies and procedures
- Addresses, reviews, compiles, and resolves matters regarding government remittances
- Addresses, reviews, compiles, reconciles, and resolves issues regarding employee pension matters
- Oversees and analyses bi-weekly payroll to determine reasonableness and accuracy
- Provides direct daily supervision of Accounting & Payroll Supervisor
- Identifies, selects, trains, coaches, and manages the performance of the accounting department
- Clearly communicates each staff member’s roles and responsibilities and provides support to help staff accomplish assigned objectives
- Ensures compliance with Company policies, client contracts and all governmental agencies or otherwise
- Implements changes resulting from audits, reviews, or other examines by government or agencies to ensure compliance
- Streamlines accounting department and Company procedures to reduce costs, and ensure the smooth running of operations
- Respects and maintains the confidentiality of all employee records, business records, client and customer information, data, and other information not otherwise available to the public
- Ensures operations departments have complete and accurate reports to manage their respective departments
- Addresses human resource issues promptly, accordingly and following the principles of progressive discipline where appropriate, emphasizing corrective actions to improve individual performance
- Determine whether to discipline and apply discipline, including suspensions and terminations, according to company policy and, where applicable, in compliance with collective agreements
- Represents Company in grievance procedure with accounting/payroll related issues
- Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance a providing consistent example to staff
- Maintains a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employees
- Supports departments with special projects and providing back-up when required
- All other duties assigned.
Working Conditions:
The Accounting Manager works primarily in an office environment. The Accounting Manager may be called upon after hours from time-to-time by managers, in an emergency, or other reasons as required. The job requires the following physical activities: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading, typing, filing, answering phones.

- Five (5) Years management/supervisory experience in an accounting role
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent knowledge in accounting and finance
- CPA (or legacy CMA/CGA) designation
- Payroll experience (ADP WFN preferred)
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software applications with expertise in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Be able to pass and maintain a clear Criminal Background Check
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Experience developing financial plans, managing resources, analyzing and interpreting financial data
- Extensive understanding of procurement functions and accounting guidelines
- Cost control or financial/budget experience
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with an ability to influence people at all levels of the
- Analytical with a strong attention to detail
- Strong working knowledge of payroll processing and practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while exceeding established goals and objectives
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to set clear expectations, coach, develop and motivate staff
- Ability to hold the respect and confidence of all employees
- Ability to work independently and objectively
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow up to department staff
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic recording and information systems used by the company
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to remain polite, professional and courteous while communicating with customers and other staff
- Flexible and able to adapt to a fast paced, changing environment
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software
- Demonstrated ability to manage with a “Safety First” attitude
