Location Description:
Wakefield is one of the largest production facilities within Michael Foods. We serve as a flex plant and are able to produce everything from a whole pasteurized egg to liquid, dried, hardboiled and curds.
Responsibilities:
SUMMARY:
The Accounting Clerk is responsible to ensure vendor invoices are paid correctly and on-time and to assist in a variety of financial accounting and reporting matters. This position involves contact with vendors, management and staff at all levels.
This position always has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensures that all policies, procedures and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.
ACTIVITIES:
- Process invoices and credit memos in SAP and through the Vendor Invoice Management System (VIM).
- Verify accuracy of invoices and credit memos by reviewing quantities, prices, general ledger coding and approvals. Research and resolve invoice processing issues.
- Work with vendors and purchase order creators to ensure that purchase orders and inbound invoices include the necessary information needed to process through the Vendor Invoice Management System efficiently.
- Communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies and respond promptly to information requests.
- Assist with the monthly close process for the Wakefield plants by preparing assigned journal entries, settling maintenance orders and updating cash flow projections.
- Prepare and distribute assigned special interest reports.
- Maintain capital project files and place assets in service with appropriate documentation.
- Ensure compliance to sales tax rules. File sales and use tax related forms and related payments.
- Follow proper SOP’s (Standard Operation Procedures).
- Provide backup for other staff members.
- Assume personal responsibility to ensure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
- Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
- Able to work overtime and holidays when needed.
- Insures regulatory compliance at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous accounting experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
- Demonstrated aptitude for effective, efficient and innovative use of IS technologies. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and effective organization methods and techniques for maintaining record keeping and filing systems. Able to multi-task and complete assignments/tasks timely.
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and work effectively with others to complete work assignments.
- Ability to work independently or with others in a team environment depending upon the assignment.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
