Description
The NISC IV program at Leidos is seeking a Data Scientist to perform a variety of duties in connection with building and managing an analytic framework based on processed and unprocessed data collections and data set storage for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Office of Investigations and Personal Responsibility.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and pass FAA security screening for positions of public trust. Public Trust requires US Citizenship.
Primary Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured, diverse and/or large data sets from disparate sources. Application of mathematical, statistical, scientific, and/or computational techniques, such as probability models, machine learning, data mining, pattern recognition, data visualization, predictive analytics, data warehousing, artificial intelligence, and/or other similarly complex methods. Build data products to extract valuable procedural insights. Assist with performance metrics, monitoring compliance with standards, policies, and productivity, develop and implement solutions for decision-support services. Identifies meaningful insights and interprets and communicates findings and recommendations. May develop information tools, algorithms, dashboards, and queries to monitor and improve performance. The successful candidate must be able to collaborate with cross functional teams to develop and integrate natural language processing and machine learning models into an analytical framework. The primary responsibilities of the position are:
- Assist in building and managing the AXI Analytic Framework and processed and unprocessed data collections and data set storage.
- Collaborate with various teams to develop and integrate natural language processing and machine learning models into the AXI analytical framework. Ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Uphold data governance principles and adhere to ethical practices for handling sensitive and confidential data.
- Prepare formal written reports clearly stating the results of analysis ensuring accuracy and adequacy.
- Work closely with data analysts and investigative analysts to ensure accurate and reliable data sources for visualization purposes.
- Effectively maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to, peers, staff, and management, using clear communication and continued familiarity with requirements for OPR.
- Collaborate with management and stakeholders to understand the mission needs and translate them into actionable initiatives.
- Use Office of Investigations and Professional Responsibility (AXI) knowledge, skills, and abilities of a wide variety of advanced computer technologies and theories. Maintain an understanding of computer network architecture to identify data sources by owner, as well as collection techniques. Maintain familiarity with storage and archive techniques.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in data science and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Attends meetings related to the Office of Investigations and Professional Responsibility (AXI) or other program activities.
- Utilize various data collection and analysis tools and scripting languages to create and validate data sets used by analysts.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and 10 years of experience. 10 years of relevant data science experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
- Ability to use Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate, and Tableau to graphically display relevant data for analysis.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in data analysis, using statistics, monitoring, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skill
- Able to provide data efficiently and effectively to stakeholders with high quality and integrity.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Significant experience with Microsoft Office suite, including proficiency in Excel.
- Optimistic attitude, poise, and team player.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Preferred familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, SAS, Python, R, Matlab, Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
- Experience supporting data modernization projects
- Previous FAA and/or Government contracting work experience.
- Proficient in extracting data from SharePoint

Pay Range:Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
