The Flight Program Lead Pilot for the DEA Aviation Operations is responsible for overseeing the flight program, ensuring all aviation activities are conducted safely and efficiently. This role requires a highly experienced pilot with extensive flight instruction and supervisory experience, as well as a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.
THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)
Flight Operations:
Serve as the lead pilot for the DEA Aviation Operations, ensuring all missions are conducted safely and efficiently.
Fly DEA aircraft as pilot-in-command (PIC) for various missions, including single-engine, multi-engine, and rotorcraft operations.
Conduct flights in accordance with DEA policies, FAA regulations, and standard operating procedures.
Training and Instruction:
Provide flight instruction to DEA pilots, ensuring they meet all required standards and certifications.
Develop and implement training programs for pilots, including initial and recurrent training.
Evaluate pilot performance and provide feedback and guidance for improvement.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all flight operations comply with FAA regulations and DEA policies.
Maintain accurate records of all flight activities, training, and certifications.
Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversee the activities of pilots and other flight personnel, ensuring adherence to schedules and operational requirements.
Provide leadership and guidance to the flight operations team, fostering a culture of safety and professionalism.
Conduct performance evaluations and support the professional development of flight personnel.
Program Management:
Develop and implement policies and procedures for the flight program.
Coordinate with other DEA departments and external agencies to support mission requirements.
Manage the flight program budget and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications)
Requires BA/BS or equivalent experience and 8+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6+ years of prior relevant experience.
The Flight Program Lead Pilot shall hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License and the following current FAA rating:
1. Single Engine Land (SEL) and Multi-Engine Land (MEL), and/or Rotorcraft
Helicopter
2. Instrument Airplane and/or Instrument Helicopter
3. US FAA Certified Flight Instructor CFI in the following (both a and b):
a. ASEL, and/or AMEL, and/or Helicopter
b. Airplane Instrument and/or Helicopter Instrument
The ratings listed above shall have been held by the proposed instructor for the last five (5) consecutive years.
The Flight Program Lead Pilot must have a minimum of 3,000 hours logged total pilot time with the following preferred minimum experience:
1. 1,500 hours as an instructor
2. 1,000 hours multi-engine pilot-in-command (PIC) 500 hours turbine engine PIC
3. 200 hours night
4. 1,000 hours cross country
5. 250 hours instrument
6. 500 hours instrument instruction
7. 500 hours helicopter instruction
8. 100 hours instrument helicopter instruction
9. 200 hours Night Vision Goggle
The Flight Program Lead Pilot shall hold a valid first-class FAA medical certification.
The FPL shall have served a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
Must be able to obtain and maintain Public Trust Security Clearance
The Flight Program Lead Pilot must not have previous aviation accident record.
The Flight Program Lead Pilot must never have had any designation or rating suspended or revoked.
This position is a full-time responsibility and must be located at the main on-site Alliance Facility.
Preferred not Required:
Spanish speaking ability is desired, but not required.

Pay Range:Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
