Leidos is seeking a Research Assistant II to join our team in the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory at the Naval Medical Research Unit in Dayton, OH. The Mission:
- Conduct research, serve as Research Assistant II, study team lead, collect data, and act on a PI's behalf if needed
- Conduct Human Performance Research encompassing data collection/data mining. Direct/Redirect Study Participants, Stop or Start the Study due to safety, participant deviation from protocol. Directing and/or redirecting study participants, stopping or starting the study due to safety, or participant deviation from protocol
- Manage scheduling and screening of research participants
- Manage the implementation of research studies, including regulatory requirements, maintenance of files/study records, and all activities associated with internal and external audits
- Ensure compliance with rules and regulations, including human participants and/or animal use research approval
- Conduct research, serving as research assistant team lead, collecting data, and making decisions on the subject, research assistant, and intern safety. Conclude if/when it is appropriate to begin data collection daily
- Establish who can participate in studies based on participant inclusion criteria established during protocol development
- Ascertain when to start or stop a study at any time, especially with respect to participant safety
- May perform all recruiting for studies
- Ensure that participants adequately consented to the study at the time of participation. May perform duties during evening and night hours as needed for the study
- Carry out research process across the project's lifecycle, including but not limited to reviewing literature, performing pilot testing, preparing research protocols, developing experimental procedures, screening, and scheduling of study participants
- Coordinate the implementation of PI-initiated research studies, including regulatory guidelines, maintenance of files/study records, and all activities associated with internal and external audits in coordinating final products with the PI. Records include all necessary documentation for human subjects and/or animal use research approval and compliance. Perform routine records management updates
- Schedule and assist with screening study participants, including data collection, management, and analysis
- Recommend study design, modify, and plan research experiments, procedures, tests, or survey instruments; Recommend research design and develop a study budget. Perform as team director, design study tasks, and modify these tasks based on designing and testing the tasks and instrumentation. Make recommendations regarding what does or does not work for these task designs concerning the overall study design
- Develop presentations and publications, including literature searches and preparing bibliographies and sections for presentations and written published articles. Write abstracts and present research findings. Engage in the write-up of research articles; at times, be the lead team member performing the write-up and grating others' writing to create the final and published research articles. May be responsible for writing certain sections such as methods, abstract, and data analysis
- Team Management- assisting and directing other Research Assistants assigned to the study. Provide technical direction and training to entry-level Research Assistants and other Research Assistants assigned to the study to ensure understanding and performance of their duties
- Analyze and Make Recommendations on the Data Collected. Prepare and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, such as univariate and multivariate analyses of variance, regression analysis, and descriptive summaries statistical analyses
- Design and develop data management procedures and processes; manage data in spreadsheets, including data entry verification. Analyze data self-directed and make judgments on whether to keep data points or throw them out (i.e., outliers, erroneous data due to equipment malfunction, etc.) Based on data analysis results, make recommendations to PI on whether data should be used or not and suggest different statistical analyses, interpret data findings, etc.
- Develop standard operating procedures for laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Clean and maintain instrumentation, equipment, and laboratories.
- Initiate equipment purchase orders and perform inventory control. Monitor supply inventory and replenish stocks through established Command supply procedures
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and spaces
- Prepare and operate cognitive neuroscience devices for data collection including EEG and fNIRS.
What Sets You Apart:
Due to the security requirements, US Citizenship is required
Bachelor's with 4 or more years of relevant work history or Master's degree
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Experience human subject research and data collection for human research studies involving a variety of tests such as cognitive, physiological, neurological, and human performance assessments
Attention to detail and ability to follow all safety requirements and regulations is essential
Ability to work in office, laboratory, and field environments. Must be willing and able to work limited nontraditional hours such as evening, nights, and some weekends during periods of data collection
You Might Also Have:
Background in a military or medical research environment is highly desired
Familiarity with physiology and engineering
Background in data collection involving physiological measures
Awareness of Test and Evaluation procedures
Background in STEM field of research with extra focus on engineering, physiology, medically associated, and/or psychology
Experience with EEG
Certificate in CITI training

Pay Range:Pay Range $53,950.00 - $97,525.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
