Leidos National Security Sector currently has an opportunity for Process Engineer/Chemical Engineer to provide process engineering support to the Combat Feeding Division at the Combat Capabilities Development Command-Soldier Center (CCDC-SC), Natick, MA in the areas of biotechnology and fermentation processes, including biochemical, catalysis, electrochemical processes relating to biosynthetic production of foodstuffs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Independently review biotechnology research and developmental reports and associated data. Provide technical feedback on review of technical documents relating to bioreactors, bioprocess engineering design, review of microbial growth data, nutrient, and biomass production. Familiarity with biosynthetic process control equipment, food extrusion process and 3D food printing technology are also desired.
Assist government researchers and engineers with technical reviews, including review of test data and drawings, participating in and contributing to project and programmatic reviews. This can include preparing or contributing to written operating, troubleshooting and test procedures. Assist with preparing and reviewing safety procedures and safety reports, including fault analysis and safety conformance.
Conduct technical testing, collection and analysis of technical data and ability to assimilate the data into technical reports. Assist with technical demonstrations, operational assessments, safety and reliability reviews.
Independently conduct market investigations to acquire needed equipment or components.Research emerging/developmental biomanufacturing processes that can be applied to or advance the developmental bioprocess equipment to improve efficiency, output, or simplify the overall process.
Travel with CFD personnel to assist with demonstrations, testing and evaluation of equipment and bioprocess outputs.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemical, Electrochemical, or technical related discipline with 2 or more years of relevant experience. Additional experience, training, and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
Advanced knowledge of microbial-origin food, biosynthetic fermentation, biotechnology, food processing and food stabilization techniques.
Ability to assemble, integrate and operate bioreactors, microbial fermenters, micronutrient biosynthesis, pyro-/electrolytic and catalysis equipment.
Working knowledge of process control configuration, sub-process monitoring and interoperability, fault analysis/resolution and associated hardware/software interfacing.
Understanding of process scaleup from laboratory to pilot scale is also desired.
Ability to operate, diagnose and troubleshoot process control automation equipment.
Ability to utilize data acquisition equipment to confirm process performance and safety is maintained. Knowledge of food grade compliance, food safety and FDA standards with knowledge of biohazards, microbial contamination, and ability to identify bioprocess safety hazards.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a government common access card (CAC) upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Biochemical, Electrochemical, or technical related discipline.
Experience with military commodities
Strong analytical, technical and leadership skills
Ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple actions at any given time

Pay Range:Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
