This will be a split position with Outpatient and the Inpatient Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU)
The Clinical Fellow – SLP will provide direct patient care for assessing and treating communication (i.e., speech/language), oral motor, and feeding/swallowing disorders, maintain documentation relative to services offered, and participate in intra- and interdisciplinary training through the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disabilities (LEND) Program. This assignment provides temporary employment opportunities to coincide with and supplement the Clinical Fellowship Year training experience.
The Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU), a 16-bed inpatient unit, is dedicated to the assessment and treatment of severe problem behaviors seen in autism and intellectual disabilities.
SLPs evaluate and treat patients’ functional communication via speech or AAC, literacy, feeding/swallowing, and voice skills. They partner with interdisciplinary team professionals to identify links between communication and problem behaviors and help patients replace problem behaviors that served a communicative function with safe and appropriate means of expression.
