What you will do
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for several duties within the Johnson Controls Sustainable Infrastructure ICAT (Information, Communication, Automation, Technology) team, including architecting, deploying, and maintaining both physical and virtual server environments.
How you will do it
Physically install servers and other data centre equipment.
Install, configure, harden, and maintain Windows and Linux-based operating systems, load balancers, virtual machine hypervisors, and containers.
Deploy, harden, and maintain Microsoft Active Directory environments.
Deploy, harden, and maintain SQL servers and databases.
Maintain an asset/software inventory and system documentation for all servers, virtual machines, containers, and appliances.
Manage multiple methods of data and system backup. Create and maintain backup documentation outlining standard operating procedures, schedules, and system as-built configuration.
Maintain a centralized IT management platform that performs system monitoring and log aggregation.
Work with OEMs, vendors, and contractors in order to troubleshoot issues, request quotes, manage service agreements, and execute hardware warranty RMAs.
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance including health checks, software patching, generating reports, system upgrades, etc.
Assist with creating and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity practices and documentation.
Follow incident management procedures and log all work completed in the IT ticketing system. Work with stakeholders to perform efficient and effective troubleshooting of issues, perform root cause analysis studies, and implement system improvements to reduce incident occurrences.
Comply with all Johnson Controls safety policies and procedures. Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards.
Assist the ICAT team with installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting building systems that fall under the team’s shared responsibility.
On-site attendance five days a week and participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
Mentor junior team members and train them to perform common tasks.
What we look for
Required QualificationsCompletion of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or equivalent field.
A minimum of five to ten years’ work-related experience in the outlined role with demonstrated mastery of all responsibilities outlined above.
Valid VMware Certified Professional (VCP) – Data Center Virtualization certification or equivalent.
Valid Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification or equivalent.
Must be able to work varying shifts and overtime as required.
Must be able to pass provincial and federal criminal record check and subject interview.
Must be physically able to perform basic maintenance tasks, which includes ability to climb ladders, use hand tools, lift heavy objects with assistance, etc.
Excellent communication, information gathering, and documentation skills.
Excellent time management skills and punctuality.
Ability to commute throughout the GTA.
Familiarization with cybersecurity best practices and hardening techniques with regards to virtual environments, containers, Windows, Linux, and Active Directory.
History of attaining the CompTIA A+ certification.
History of attaining the ITIL v3/v4 Foundation certification.
Valid Docker Certified Associate (DCA) certification.
