What you will do:
Johnson Controls is hiring a Vice President, Global Government Relations to provide dynamic and effective leadership of the company’s global public policy and advocacy efforts. Key dimensions include the U.S., EU, APAC, and Mexico. Reporting to the Vice President & Chief Sustainability, and External Relations Officer and part of a collaborative, diverse, global team, this person will assist in the development and execution of policy campaigns, projects, and initiatives critical to the company’s success on issues including energy, environment, trade and technology.
Additionally, this executive leader will build and maintain positive company relationships with Congressional and agency decisionmakers, industry stakeholders and other policy leaders. This person will also be responsible for leading Johnson Controls’ Government Relations team globally and managing the day-to-day operations of the Washington, DC office.
How you will do it:
Ensure the establishment, development, and maintenance of effective working relationships with federal lawmakers and U.S government agencies.
Lead the development and execution of legislative strategy, orchestrate advocacy campaigns, and monitor legislative progress.
Develop strong knowledge of Johnson Controls’ global business to effectively identify, develop, and advocate company positions and interests.
Lead and manage relationships with 3rd party consultants, NGOs, trade organizations and other industry stakeholders engaged to assist Johnson Controls in advancing its agenda.
Supervise the Johnson Controls Political Action Committee (JCI PAC), including fundraising, and political-giving activities, as well as ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and disclosures relating to political engagement.
Manage the government relations budget and ensure the team is aligned with the financial goals of company leadership.
Provide overall team leadership and strategy development and oversee office functions such human resources and property management.
What we look for:
Bachelor's degree required, with preference for public policy/political science/government major. Master’s degree in related field a plus.
Minimum of 10 years of experience.
Successful track record of policy development and advocacy at a corporation or trade association.
Experience working on Capitol Hill and/or in a relevant Department or Agency. Energy and environment policy expertise a plus.
Significant experience presenting and interacting with C-suite and Board level leaders.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to represent the company with external constituents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interacting with senior company management.
Strong knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process.
Will be hybrid work arrangement with time split between our Washington, DC office and virtual using Microsoft Office Suite.
