Position Summary: The Regional Safety Operations Specialist will evaluate, design, and implement standardized procedures at HCC with the goal of mitigating safety, health and environmental risks and bringing operational excellence to the Crystal Clean (CC) organization, including Patriot Environmental Services (PES). This position will focus on Health & Safety (60%), Operations/Quality (30%), and Environmental initiatives (10%).
General Duties:
Health & Safety
- Assists in the development of new proactive behavior-based safety strategies and oversees the implementation of current strategies to help further develop organizational safety culture.
- Regional Safety point of contact on development of Industrial Services segment. Develops and reviews SOPs, JHAs, etc. as needed to ensure safe Industrial Services operations. Oversees Industrial Services jobs to ensure alignment with SOPs, JHAs, Safe Work Permit, and any other safe work standards.
- Engages as a critical Safety Operations Team Member that is primarily focused on health and safety in the assigned region, but also provides company-wide support for:
- Creating updating EHS program/procedures/policies
- Training development and delivery
- Regulatory reporting requirements
- Assessing site and job-specific PPE needs
- Conducting internal Safety audits as necessary
- Addressing OSHA related regulatory engagement
- Engaging with HR Department on employee injury/work comp/employment physical tasks, and development of Job Demands Form to outline physical requirements for field-based job positions.
- Other Safety Operations-related responsibilities as needed.
- Conducts job site visits, utilize the Job Site Audit Form developed by the Safety department. The Job Site Audit Form documents deficiencies in Fall Protection, Safety Equipment, JSA’s and safety paperwork, motor vehicles, and Personal Protective Equipment. Assist field personnel with correcting any deficiencies discovered during the Job Site Audit Process.
- Perform incident investigations and functions as the initial case management lead for all assigned incidents. Provide information on incidents to Management in a timely manner.
- Performs Monthly Calibration of portable air monitoring equipment.
- Performs Monthly Inspections of Supplied Air Breathing Systems, Fire Extinguishers, First Aid Cabinets, AED, etc.
- Works with the Operations Manager to send required personnel for monthly Drug & Alcohol testing.
- Able to communicate clear understanding of safety guidelines, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to respond to various types of emergency responses on a 7 days per week/24 hours per day schedule.
- Perform qualitative fit testing of field personnel.
- Interfaces with local occupational health clinics. Develops relationships to ensure that all employee work-related injury concerns are handled in accordance with OSHA and Worker’s Compensation best practices.
- Implements HCC’s Safe Work Permit Program within the Region of responsibility. Engages in onsite audit activities to ensure field employees are following all Safe Work Permit requirements.
Operations
- Carries out proactive solutions to problems that put the organization at risk from a safety and compliance standpoint. Sets action items using the EHS EMS and stays accountable to the action items established to drive completion and continuous organizational improvement.
- Shares key performance indicators with field employees to drive the development of EHS initiatives and operational goals. Develops and implements continuous improvement strategies when necessary.
- Provides regional support on EHS Management of Change (MOC) process (e.g. operational changes, facility modifications, program/policy/procedure development, product stewardship reviews, etc.) for facilities and procedures within region of responsibility.
- Assists in the development of standardized operating procedures.
- Interfaces with the HCC field staff frequently to spread a message of consistency and accountability as it relates to safety, health, environmental issues, and operational excellence. Follow-up with field-staff as needed to ensure documented EHS-related concerns are addressed by field staff in a timely manner.

- Confident and comfortable using Microsoft Office Suite programs (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) as well as Outlook and Teams.
Work Experience
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience required
Education, Certificates, Licenses, or Designations
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS), Industrial Safety, Public Health, Science, or equivalent relevant degree. Equivalent experience and training in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree will be considered.
- Relevant professional certifications (CHMM, ASP, CSP, etc.) a plus
Work Environment: While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works indoors or outdoors and may be required to sit/stand for long periods. Individual will be required to regularly talk, hear, see and often reach with hands, stand, walk, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. This position will be required to travel by car or air to other HCC locations or vendors regularly. Personal Protective Equipment will be required for specific situations while in the field.
