- Supervises day-to-day procurement processes and workload of the purchasing reports (typically a Materials Coordinator or hourly materials handling personnel). Provides guidance and training as needed to meet purchasing goals and objectives.
- Under the direction of the Plant Purchasing Manager and the Corporate Purchasing guidelines, purchases and develops contracts for plant materials and services.
- Ensures plant materials and services are obtained in conjunction with the ongoing cost reduction efforts.
- Provide support of SAP purchasing/inventory module and training of plant personnel.
- Studies markets, suppliers and economic climate to maintain a general awareness of price trends, material availability and lead times.
- Works in a team environment to develop new sources of supply where applicable ensuring acceptance by end-user.
- Ensures inventory levels are maintained at appropriate levels as to limit excess while still meeting plant needs without interruption. Coordinate purchasing activities with other departments to maintain inventory at a predetermined level.
- Negotiate with suppliers to obtain optimal products and pricing.
- Participates in problem resolution with material quality or customer service problems with suppliers.
- Maintains records of materials, prices, inventories, and deliveries. Prepares and completes purchasing inventory reports as needed.
- Follow up on outstanding purchase orders. Expedite the procurement and delivery of materials, supplies, or parts as needed.
- Reviews purchase requisitions and prepare purchase orders. Consults catalogs and other references to obtain prices and specifications. Contacts vendors and suppliers for quotes. Sources new suppliers as needed or to increase purchasing power.
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred; Associates degree plus relevant experience required
- Minimum 5 years experience in a purchasing function, inventory control, or logistics management
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Solid interpersonal and communication skills
- Computer skills including MS Office suite of products; prior experience with inventory software preferred; SAP desired
- Strong mathematical skills
- Strong attention to detail and follow up
