Reporting to the Vice President/General Manager, the position manages aggregate plants in Central Illinois market. The position currently leads three direct reports ensuring safe and efficient operation of the plants. The successful candidate will lead our organization through a transformational period as we pursue a digital future in our operations and be results-oriented, work with a high sense of urgency, have strong analytical skills and build strong relationships.
This position can be based from any of the three operations near Champaign, IL; Springfield, IL; or Eastern Suburbs of St. Louis, MO. This position is responsible for medium size and diverse operations and has tremendous offering of in terms of challenges, experience and potential for future growth
WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO:
- Lead team and organization in driving a safety culture that embraces zero injuries daily through active interaction. Ensure policies, procedures and programs are effectively implemented as well as developing your own programs that drive zero injury culture.
- Lead continuous improvement culture with emphasis on analysis of plant and personnel performance, evaluating modifications, capital improvements and changes in practice or behavior to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. This position requires strong analytical skills and the successful candidate must be able to make sound business decisions based on quantitative analysis.
- Coordinate with supporting Plant Managers to ensure that solid fleet and maintenance plans are in place and effectively executed at each operation.
- Prepare and implement annual operating and capital budgets as well as capital spending requests.
- Partner with the local Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to maintain a safe working environment meeting all internal standards and external regulations. Success is building and sustaining a culture of safety as a core value within all activities.
- Identify and develop talented individuals from all levels in order to build and strengthen the organization’s team.
- Evaluate performance of subordinates and provide coaching enabling achievement of their full potential. Staff development skills are a key requirement.
- Effectively lead our team and supporting functions to accomplish organizational objectives regarding safety, environment, profit, productivity, efficiencies, production costs and quality.
- This will require daily travel between the sites.
- Develop close working relationships with peers (Sales Manager, Quality Control Manager, Continuous Improvement Manager and finance manager) to create maximum value for the business.
- Build relationships within the local communities surrounding the operations.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Bachelor’s in Engineering or Business or equivalent work experience.
- Five years of aggregates operations management.
- Prior experience managing multiple locations preferred.
- Basic understanding of geology and various mining methods.
- Solid knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations governing aggregate operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operational and sales and marketing issues affecting aggregate operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of aggregate quality control parameters.
- Highly motivated and driven to succeed, high initiative, self starter and independent leader willing to take risk.
- Ability to demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking and work with the management team to identify worthwhile business opportunities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and financial statements.
- Solid communication skills, oral and written.
- Proven leadership skills managing multiple and diverse teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively respond to urgent situations.
- Complies with all federal, state and local guidelines.
- Intermediate level computer skills including MS Office products.
