JOB SUMMARY A surgical technician and patient care support staff role responsible for providing technical support services in the LDRP setting as well as the Operating room. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, performs a variety of unit specific patient care activities, data collection, and surgical technician duties. When performing in the role of surgical technologist works with the surgical team to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Qualifications
Education: A graduate from an accredited Surgical Technician program.
Experience: Experience preferred
License and Certification: Certification as a certified surgical technologist by the NBSTSA must be obtained within (6) six months of start date. Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Working knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, peers, employees, physicians and managers. Ability to read and understand oral and written material and effectively communicate technical or complex information. Works efficiently and organizes time appropriately. Ability to prioritize daily work assignments. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Demonstrates initiative in all job related activities. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction. Ability to react and perform under strict timelines and/or emergency situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
