Additional Information About the Role
- Up to a $2300 Sign on Bonus
- Shift information - HYBRID REMOTE WORK SCHEDULE - Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm, no weekends. Hybrid 2 days remotely and 3 days in office and schedule may vary where it might not be so rigid so there is flexability to schedule time with clients
- Types of clients seen - Clients that have an existing or history of substance use issues and usually with underlying mental health issues that have mild to moderate symptoms and mental health is managed.
- Team dynamic - This team currently has two Substance Use counselors/Therapists, a peer specialist, a Community Support Specialist and a Supervisor.
- Location - It will be either Central-Kingshighway Facility or North County – Florissant/Graham Rd site
- Must Have skills for this Position - Preferably experience in counseling and therapy skills specifically directed to Substance use population based on evidenced-based practices from SAMHSA, have the ability to facilitate groups education and counseling specifically geared toward Substance use.
- Job responsibilities - Ability to complete comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, provide individual therapy/counseling and facilitate group education and counseling, collaborate with outside agency related to Substance use field.
- Must be Fully or Provisionally licensed in MO.
Overview
BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Franois, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

Role Purpose
The Substance Use Counselor (provisionally licensed) provides early intervention, treatment and ongoing therapy to persons identified with substance use disorders. This position also assists with medication services for the treatment of addictions. This position provides service to youth, adults and groups alike.
Responsibilities
Completes intake for individuals requesting services; assesses the needs of the patient and their eligibility for service; identifies substance use, based on symptomology and treatment history.
Plans and conducts individual sessions, group counseling and follow-up sessions in accordance with standards.
Develops and facilitates education for individual clients and groups; educates clients on substance use topics and how to avoid and/or reduce use.
Maintains contact with referral resources in the community; refers patients to community providers or to other agencies who can provide a higher level care.
