The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in our GES Global Engineering Services division.
This is a third shift opportunity from 10:00 pm – 7:30 am, Sunday - Thursday.
The primary function of this position is to provide multiple skilled trades (Call Center, Electrical, HVAC/R, Mechanical) maintenance supervision for the manufacturing, research/development laboratories, warehouse, and other facilities that make up the Lake County facilities including associated leased facilities. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for manpower and resources within the maintenance area to ensure timely support to operations and engineering. Responds to issues related to equipment, personnel and MAXIMO system.To meet these objectives, Maintenance Supervisor must be responsible for the supervision and coordination of field activities for Abbott trades personnel within the LCSO Lake County Maintenance departments.
What You’ll Work On
- Provide strong leadership skills to oversee and direct a multi- skilled trade organization in a third shift work environment.
- The Supervisor is responsible for establishing and enforcing the policies and procedures for assigned department including technical, personnel, quality, safety, or administrative.
- Supervise, train, and develop nonexempt personnel. Develop goals / objectives for all assigned personnel. Monitor employees' performance against goals and provide performance feedback. Write and conduct development plans / performance appraisals. Manage employee HR issues.
- Responsible for the workload and supervision of approximately 15 Abbott employees.
- Manages work activities by interacting with customer base to help coordinate daily activities for all trades within their department.
- Establish, maintain, and manage a safe, efficient, and effective service department.
- Coordinates work activities with other supervisors, trades groups, engineers, and production/operations personnel to maximize the efforts of the department.
- Duties of this position include but are not limited to planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling of facility maintenance activities.
- Development of long-range schedules in conjunction with upcoming and active projects along with customer needs.
- Department single point of contact ensuring cost, schedules, and communications are synergized and streamlined for consistency and timeliness.
- Conducts daily shop and job site safety inspections ensuring all safety policies and procedures are followed.
- Must understand and work with customers who have urgent and conflicting expectations.
- Determine requirements for new and replacement tools, training needed for personnel, and job instructions based on scope and conditions.
- Must understand and effectively establish/communicate/ensure all safety requirements and procedures specifically applicable to the department personnel are known and followed.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are within compliance with Abbott and external agencies, including government, quality, regulatory systems, and standards.
- Conduct performance assessments, growth plans, mentoring and other personnel related activities to direct reports.
- This position reports to the department Section Manager and has budgetary responsibilities to effectively manage services provided to various divisional customers.
- Additional responsibilities can include team lead on special projects/assignments and work on inter divisional project teams and/or task force and be a temporary back-up for his/her manager.
Accountability:
- This position requires a supervisor capable of manning a qualified and organized work force, to respond to the needs at the Abbott Lake County sites in a cost-effective manner, assuring continuous plant operation.
- This position requires availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to respond to emergency situations.
- Delays and inefficiencies in completion of procedures could result in hundreds of thousands of dollars per day lost in manufacturing.
- This position requires the individual to assure that all regulatory requirements are met and maintained to include FDA, GMP, OSHA, and ISO requirements.
- Not meeting these regulatory requirements could result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and the loss of manufacturing of Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Core Diagnostic products to market.
- Flexibility is required in being able to work with all divisions operating within the Abbott Lake County plants to satisfy their needs and meet consistently conflicting schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree or the equivalent experience and/or formal post high school technical training/ certification. Bachelor’s degree is desirable.
- This position requires at least five years of related work experience and at least two years’ experience as a group leader or similar role.
- The Supervisor must also have strong technical expertise so-as-to give direction to and gauge performance of the widely diverse technical services provided by this organization.
- Possess a critical thinking mindset who can multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Good writing and verbal skillsets for communications to management and customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical discipline.

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
