The Opportunity
This position works out of our Irvine, CA., location in the Electrophysiology Division. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. This role will start off on 1st for training for 60-90 days (this shift would be 8am to 5pm - Mon-Fri), and then will shift to support coverage on 2nd shift - which is 1pm - 10pm Mon thru Fri. Our 2nd shift engineer is the technical support and needs to be very self-motivated to complete required activities on that shift. There is an overlap between 1st and 2nd shift for knowledge and resources.
We are excited to share about an opportunity with our Abbott Medical Device, and we are seeking an experienced, high caliber Engineer II, Manufacturing to support our manufacturing and manufacturing processes.
What You’ll Work On
Front line engineer supporting multiple product lines and operations team
Manage projects which include new production equipment, process improvements and cost reductions. Provide guidance to other engineers and technicians.
Additional responsibilities include:
Supporting overall production line output, including and not limited to preventing/addressing line down concerns, production scrap with RCA and corrective actions, equipment related issues, material supply concerns, and other business interruptions.
Coordinate the design, procurement, build and debug of tooling, machinery and test equipment.
Improve product quality, labor efficiency, and throughput through the use of Lean manufacturing concepts
Conduct Process FMEAs and Process Validations
Individual should:

Work effectively with cross-functional teams
Design and develop manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures in order to meet daily production schedules while enhancing productivity and product quality
Evaluation of production equipment
Production support and process validation
Interface with vendors for incoming components, equipment and tools
Troubleshoot manufacturing process and equipment
Utilize tools like Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, and SPC to improve processes
Understand manufacturing concepts like Value Stream mapping, 5S and Visual Workplace to improve quality, labor efficiency, and throughput.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field or equivalent
3+ years of relevant engineering experience. Prior manufacturing engineering experience is required.
Experience in highly regulated field, preferably medical device manufacturing.
Understanding and use of process monitoring and statistical analysis tools.
Proficiency in medical device scrap dissections, preferably catheters.
Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, including equipment specifications and IQs. Preferred knowledge of Equipment reliability, PM, Calibration.
Strong analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
Demonstrated leadership capability in team settings.
Ability to work within a team and independently in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with CAD systems, designing and implementing fixtures.
Understanding of mechanical reasoning, physics, electronics, metal working and plastics
Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
Experience working with document control, ERP, and equipment management systems.
Understanding of Lean Six Sigma concepts.
Experience working closely with Quality Engineers in determining rejects based on inspection criteria and test methods.
Demonstrated use of DOE and Gauge R&R.
Experience with Process Characterization, OQ, PQ, PPQ.

The base pay for this position is $65,900.00 – $131,900.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
