The Radiation Therapist 2 assists the Radiation Oncology manager with operational duties in the department, including staffing assignments, orientation and training of new employees, and selection and operation of new equipment and procedures, while concurrently functioning as a staff therapist. This position will act as a role model and support management initiatives for the department. Functions as a resource for the radiation therapists and assume a supervisory role in the absence of the manager.
- Function as a resource for the radiation therapists for operational and staffing concerns.
- Responsible for orientation and training of new therapists staff and therapist students.
- Accurately delivers the planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision. Verifies patient information and prepares the treatment room and equipment.
- Monitors patient's condition while undergoing treatment, recognizing signs of treatment complications and alerting the physician or nurse if needed.
- Explain procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment, and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment. Reinforce Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
- Serves as mentor, encouraging Radiation Therapy peers to seek best practice models when applying radiation therapy to our patients.
- Responsible for staff scheduling, and special supplies needed for any radiation therapy procedure.
