The ED Supervisor is responsible for supporting the emergency department manager in the administrative duties of the clinical unit and providing leadership through collaboration with the healthcare team and maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The ED Supervisor will participate in organizational and unit-based quality maintenance and improvement activities, assist management with performance evaluations and staff rounding, and represent the emergency department in the clinical and administrative setting. The ED Supervisor will also maintain the clinical competencies required to provide direct patient care in the emergency department setting should the need arise.
- Recommends various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, disciplinary, performance appraisals, and promotions.
- Assists in the monitoring of patient care quality and department performance improvement.
- Assists in the development of annual department goals and continuously monitors performance.
- Ensures that the overall objectives relating to the Carle Experience are achieved.
- Helps to express the vision and values of the organization and department to department staff.
- Assists staff to resolve work-related interpersonal or patient care issues.
- Assists the ED manager to monitor employee performance and ensure timely communications for the purpose of goal setting, performance evaluation, wage increases and continued personnel actions.
- Assists the ED manager to ensure the smooth operation of all departmental functions according to approved policies and in accordance with all state and federal law, standards of professional practice, and applicable accreditation standards.
- Supports the ED Manager in collecting information for accreditation surveys and departmental audits.
- Actively assists the ED Manager with implementation of the recommended changes.
- Develops, reviews, and revises department policies and procedures as delegated by the ED manager.
- Assists the ED manager in the implementation of tactical plans to meet current and future strategic objectives
