What we need We are looking the Principal Robotics Engineer - Bot Localization. They will be working on the robot controls team to design, develop and implement the localization solutions for our robots. You will be working with a group of industry leading roboticists to implement a large-scale production robotic solution.
What we do The Minibot team is responsible for all software development on Symbotic's large fleet of autonomous mobile robots, which perform mission critical operations in the supply chain. This includes embedded systems, controls, perception, path planning, and GUI development.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product teams to plan, design, and develop cutting-edge localization algorithms for mobile robots.
- Optimize robot performance and throughput to achieve the desired system KPIs.
- Develop C++ software to interface with hardware, and detect anomalies.
- Build automated diagnostic tools for reliable detection and debugging of robot failures in the field.
- Design mitigation and fallback strategies for the position estimation system.
- Take ownership of the quality, reliability, and testability of the software codebase.
- Troubleshoot system problems in production or design, investigating issues related to product performance or production difficulties.
- Identify and mitigate risks, ensuring successful customer deliveries and continual improvements in system performance.
- Occasional travel of up to 10% may be required.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in control systems, robotics, electronic engineering, or a related field.
- 8 to 12 years of demonstrated experience in developing control algorithms for mobile robots.
- Experience with linear and non-linear controllers.
- Demonstrated expertise in Bayesian state estimation, Visual Odometry, Visual Inertial Odometry, and Visual SLAM.
- Experience evaluating and understanding design trade-offs using Kalman filters, numerical optimization, pose graphs, etc.
- Proficiency in sensor analysis/fusion involving IMU, Cameras, and other sensors.
- Proven ability to deliver robotics and software products deployed in real-world scenarios.
- Knowledge of C++ embedded coding and design patterns suitable for real-time environments.
- Familiarity with real-time or embedded operating systems and threading and communication issues related to real-time operating systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain/teach technical concepts effectively.
- Proficiency in using tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools.
