What we need We are looking for an experienced Cost Accounting Manager to join Symbotic's Controllership team within our Finance organization. In this role you will work closely with the Finance, Operations and Supply Chain teams to effectively oversee all inventory processes, the warranty program, support monthly closing, forecast and budgeting activities, analyze and interpret financial performance, and other ad-hoc reporting/analysis. Additionally, you will be responsible for ensuring adherence to a robust control environment and managing the implementation of any new policies and procedures.
What we do The Controllership team is part of the Finance organization, a critical financial business partner for the Company. Finance functions include General Accounting, Accounts Payable & Receivable, Internal Audit, FP&A. Our Finance team is a trusted source for financial information and guidance for our internal customers, partners, customers, suppliers, regulators, and stakeholders.
What you'll do
- Drive operational improvements and efficiencies on all core inventory processes improve profitability and ensure compliance
- Work with inventory control team to monitor, track and reconcile inventory transactions and inventory held at 3rd parties.
- Document internal controls, processes and procedures related to cost accounting to ensure SOX compliance
- Work closely with the supply chain team to understand production schedules, contracts, inventory movements and other supply chain matters in order to ensure inventory is fairly stated on the balance sheet
- Lead continuous process improvement projects in the inventory control, warranty, and E&O reserve requirement area
- Support warranty program forecasting, analytics, and identify opportunities to improve processes
- Perform monthly financial close activities including accounting for repair activity, overhead expenses, overhead allocations, inventory, and cost-of-goods-sold
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of general ledger/trial balance for the inventory grouping of accounts and COGS
- Monitor, measure and refine KPIs, metrics and operational performance
- Oversee processes to manage material costing and perform variance analysis such as Purchase Price Variance and Production Variance
- Review, report and provide commentary/analysis of costs against prior periods, plan and latest forecast
- Participate in the maintenance and review for manufactured items and prepare cost estimate for new products
- Assist in the completion of annual budgets and forecast
- Assist with and ensure successful quarterly and year end audits
- Prepare ad hoc reporting and analyses and assist team with research on cost accounting questions and assist with special projects, as requested
- Up to 10% travel may be requested
What you'll need
- 4-year college degree (Accounting), from an accredited institution, and/or equivalent work experience in a related field
- Eight (8) + years accounting/finance experience, including a minimum of Two (2) + of cost accounting experience or equivalent work experience
- Solid understanding of fundamental cost accounting theories and concepts
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (i.e. oral and written)
- Experienced in the use of integrated ERP software; SAP experience is preferred
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of inner workings of accounting process and systems
- Advanced Microsoft Excel user, proficient with functions, pivot tables and data analysis
- Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Desire to drive business process improvements and performance
- Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
- Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills
Other considerations
- Up to 10% of travel may be requested . Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
- The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
