Wh at we need Symbotic is currently seeking a Principal Software Build Engineer to join our Mobile Robotics team. We are looking for a creative and collaborative person who thrive s in a n agile development environment. You will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of high-quality software products. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and processes necessary for continuous integration, automated testing, and deployment pipelines. Your expertise will be instrumental in optimizing build and release processes, enhancing development workflows, and facilitating collaboration between development, QA, and operations teams.
What we do We are a talented team of roboticists working on the heart of Symbotic's automation solution - Symbot , the mobile robot . The team is responsible for delivering solutions for the storage and retrieval use cases performed in a fully autonomous structure operating 100s of Symbots at customer sites.
What you 'll do
- Build Infrastructure Design and Implementation: Design, architect, and implement scalable and reliable build infrastructure to support the development lifecycle, including build servers, version control systems, artifact repositories, and continuous integration/delivery pipelines of software components and tools delivery by the software teams .
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD): Establish and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment processes, ensuring rapid and reliable delivery of software releases.
- Tooling and Automation: Evaluate, select, and integrate tools and technologies to streamline and automate build, test, and deployment workflows. Develop scripts, plugins, and custom solutions to optimize build processes and improve developer productivity.
- Build System Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement in the build system, and implement optimizations to enhance build times, resource utilization , and reliability.
- Version Control and Configuration Management: Implement best practices for version control, branching, and code review processes. Ensure the integrity and consistency of software configurations across development, testing, and production environments.
- Quality Assurance and Testing Integration: Collaborate with QA engineers to integrate automated testing frameworks and tools into the build pipeline, enabling comprehensive testing of software components and ensuring the delivery of high-quality releases.
- Release Management: Coordinate and oversee the release process, including versioning, tagging, packaging, and deployment of software artifacts. Ensure smooth and efficient rollouts of new features and updates to production environments.
- Documentation and Training: Create and maintain documentation, guidelines, and training materials related to build and release processes. Provide guidance and support to development teams on best practices for build automation and deployment strategies.
- Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor build and deployment pipelines for performance, stability, and security issues. Investigate and resolve build failures, deployment errors, and other technical issues in a timely manner.
- Occasional (10%) travel to customer sites is required
What you ' ll need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science , Engineering, or related field.
- 10 + years of experience in software development, build engineering, or related roles.
- Proficiency in build automation tools such as Jenkins, or GitLab CI.
- Strong scripting and programming skills in languages such as Python, Shell, or Groovy.
- In-depth knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) and code collaboration workflows.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and infrastructure as code ( IaC ) tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, Puppet , Proget ).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
