The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The Supply Chain Planning Director’s role is to manage people, processes and tools across demand, supply and portfolio management, as well as the planning frameworks, integrated business planning (IBP), and sales and operations execution (S&OE). This role is responsible for the successful execution of planning processes that balance demand and supply resources and align plans to business objectives. It has accountability to enable business leaders to make decisions that help realign execution with strategy in an ever-changing environment. This role supports the organization to make better decisions and balance service, cost, inventory, sustainability and risk.
The supply chain planning director develops and maintains professional relationships with other functions, such as marketing, commercial, product development, manufacturing, logistics, procurement and finance to reconcile top-down financial plans with the bottom-up operational plans.
The individual in this position will be responsible for the following:
Objectives
This position is responsible for making decisions that impact demand, supply and final consensus plans, which includes:
Work across Plan, Source, Make, Deliver and other critical pillars to drive Top Quartile Service Performance in the Med Tech industry.
Managing and facilitating the IBP and S&OE processes to drive alignment and achievement of short, medium and long-term business objectives.
Work closely with the business & customers to align on supply chain strategies that support our different go-to-market models.
Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to identify and maintain resources needed to establish and provide an effective supply chain.
Communicating decisions to stakeholders, as well as identify and resolve plan variances, risk and opportunities at the regional and global level.
Serve as the point-person for escalation of portfolio and risk-related issues.
Strategy
Identify and implement new business critical metrics and processes that enhance measures around speed, delivery performance, and cost and measure the consequential improvement over time.
Collaborate with key cross-functional teams to model scenarios to recommend planning strategies, establish inventory targets and execute the plan.
Develop a companywide strategic roadmap to improve planning maturity and align strategic roadmap with key stakeholders across functions, hierarchy and different parts of the business.
Communications
Work with business unit leadership to generate a consensus demand plan, consensus supply plan and a final S&OP plan.
Influence and collaborate with key partners in marketing, sales (field sales, corporate sales managers and directors), operations and finance and address input gaps as identified by forecast error, bias and volatility review, supplier performance, supply constraints and other means.
Manage teams of planners to continually assess operational network planning assumptions in conjunction with procurement, planning, manufacturing operations and logistics/warehousing, including safety stocks, lead times, order quantities, campaign or production strategy, batch yields and cycle times.
Execution
Assist in development of annual and strategic plans and reconcile them with monetized S&OP plans. Drive resolution of gaps to plans and communicate and escalate critical gaps between the plans in the S&OP process.
Conduct and/or facilitate what-if analysis to create alternate scenarios for reconciling demand, supply, and financial plans. Explain and communicate the risks and upside associated with different scenarios for more productive cross-functional discussions.
Manage demand and supply teams including supply network planning and optimization to develop monthly S&OP input (medium- or long-term demand and supply plans and working capital position)
Assess current processes and identify and lead improvements in planning tools, reporting, processes, culture and skills required to align process outcomes with corporate goals
Work with the demand and supply teams to define and drive an out-of-cycle plan variance realignment process if required.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university and 10 years of Supply Chain experience in private, public, government or military environment

Five (5) years of leadership experience in a private, public, government or military environment

Demonstrated leadership of geographically diverse team membersBusiness and Financials Acumen / Knowledge
Medtech industry experience is preferred
APICS Certification
Lean Six Sigma experience
Ability to operate at Strategic and Operational levels
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Ability to drive for results while navigating ambiguity
Experience leading large cross-functional projects including using project management skills to motivate and align resources
Proven ability to successfully influence, negotiate, and resolve conflicts to drive decisions across all levels of the organization
Work location:
Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to a Solventum location -St.Paul)
Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international
