The Protective & Marine Division is seeking a candidate with extensive experience with high performance coatings with strong strategic development skills. This role is for the USCA Food & Beverage sub-segment in Manufacturing & Processing of the Protective & Marine Division – this role is responsible for subject matter expertise, strategic development, knowledge transfer, market awareness, industry trends, leadership, and digital ownership effectively aligning resources with opportunities to drive top line growth, gross margins, and profitability, and understanding policy/regulations.
Support development and execution of UCSA Food & Beverage strategy – working closely with Sales (Leadership, PDMs, KAMs, BDRs), Technical, Product Management and Marketing Communications to reach and exceed financial goals, relative to sales and profitability. This position will require strong communication skills to foster cross-functional collaboration between internal stakeholders.
Drive development of projects and implement strategic plans, a high degree of understanding in working with industry insights and needs, leading cross-functional teams, and managing a robust portfolio.
Participate in strategic development and implementation of communication and selling tools that will grow brand awareness internally and externally. Tools include but are not limited to videos, marketing campaigns, technical symposia, internal/external presentations, and trainings.
Capture, analyze, and utilize voice of customer (VOC) to drive meaningful development, business and growth.
Identify, explore, and recommend innovative technologies for development and commercialization within the P&M/ Food & Beverage Segment.
The Focus Market Segment Manager is measured directly by P&M sales and margin Food & Beverage/M&P and owner target customers, primarily through the P&M Sales Organization. These objectives are achieved through activities in the following dimensions:
Strategy
- Joint development and subsequent execution of strategic short and long-term market plans that supports the organizational strategy, including business performance analysis, critical success factors and budgeting.
- Generate product strategies and hierarchies that support product life cycle and innovation necessary for industry leadership.
- Provide competitive analysis that highlights our specific competitive advantages and how to accelerate our focus market growth.
- Create strategic roadmap based on VOC, industry trends and unmet market/segment needs to build value chain solutions to grow customers and market share.
- Develop and validate value propositions/case studies to provide strong leadership in Food & Beverage segment.
- Create brand awareness and consideration of Sherwin-Williams products through innovative and effective channels to maximize impact in the market segment.
- Develop superior working relationships with Technical, Sales, Research & Development, Product Management, Project Management, Marketing Communications, Legal, and Finance Managers.
Products
- Translate Voice of Customer, Voice of Industry and Voice of Sherwin into clearly defined technical project plans and drive through Stage Gate.
- Assure the Manufacturing & Processing product portfolio is optimized to meet current needs and provide for new business opportunities.
- Develop business cases for new product specifications and development in collaboration with Sales and Technical (Including oversight for required product testing or 3rd party testing).
- Generate product or system recommendations that meet the regulatory requirements of the focus market customers.
- Provide comprehensive insight regarding competitive product offerings and required gaps that need to be filled to improve our right to success.
Communications
- Support the creation of effective sales and marketing tools, collateral, website, social media platforms and events.
- Deliver market and product training that considers methods that best engage the audience.
- Participate in frequent and effective communication with all levels of sales supported by geographic or sub-segment assignment.
- Provide enterprise-wide market direction, intelligence, initiatives, and engagement.
- Event (trade show) support.
Leadership
- Advance the overall marketing team and strategy through effective stewardship of the focus market, effective talent management and development of the sales organization.
- Participate in Trade organizations/ committees that drive focus market direction.
- Assume leadership roles to guide the protective coatings industry and relevant organizations.
- Track and report Focus Market business development activities and results.
- Influence the entire ecosystem of a focus market segment through thought leadership (Including practices, processes, and products) with technical papers, white papers and presentations, etc.
FORMAL EDUCATION: (GENERALLY, IF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE IS ACCEPTABLE, THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE THREE YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE FOR EVERY ONE YEAR OF COLLEGE EDUCATION REQUIRED)
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Technical field
Preferred:
- MBA, Advanced Technical Degree, or P.E.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or Technical field
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Previous sales and/or marketing experience in B2B required.
Preferred:
- 10 years experience working in the coatings and/or food and beverage industry in an account management or development role.
- 10 years experience working with a cross functional team of technical, marketing, and sales professionals.
- Experience successfully launching new products through a rigorous approval process
- An understanding of competitor products currently in specifications and SW equivalents
