CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Product safety procedures-
- Maintain thorough understanding of U.S. FHSA labeling and U.S. OSHA Hazard Communication Standard
- Maintain thorough understanding of Sherwin-Williams product safety procedures, including hazard communication practices within the workplace and for downstream customers.
- Develop written work instructions and standard operating procedures, according to Product Stewardship documentation requirements.
- As needed, assist Sherwin-Williams Legal Department with potential product safety and product liability matters
Product safety business support-
- Maintain expertise in uses, reasonably foreseeable misuses, and end users of Sherwin-Williams products
- Provide product safety support and technical guidance to product development and product stewardship teams
- Conduct product risk assessments, such as LHAMA assessments, in support of product labeling
- Provide expert level response to internal and customer inquiries regarding physical or chemical hazards of Sherwin-Williams products..
- Conduct alternatives assessments, as needed..
- Provide product safety and hazard communication training for various stakeholder groups within Sherwin-Williams..
- Maintain strong relationships with business Product Stewards, R&D teams, and Marketing teams.
Continuous improvement
- Partner with the Hazard Communication function to improve classification schemas and algorithms within labeling software systems.
- Lead process or system changes necessary to improve efficiency or accuracy of product safety programs
- Present product topics to senior leadership, as needed
- Engage with professional societies to monitor scientific advancements and maintain professional certifications
FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering
Preferred:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in science or engineering
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 10+ years’ experience in similar function
- 7+ years’ experience in similar function if PhD in science or engineering from an accredited institution
- Experience providing product safety support to product stewardship programs.
Preferred:
- 15+ years’ experience in similar function
- 10+ years’ experience in similar function if PhD in science or engineering from an accredited institution
- Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Use of a variety of IT applications
- Experience in paint & coatings or chemical industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Receptive to feedback
Preferred:
- Experience presenting to external and senior leadership audiences.
- Project lead of cross functional projects or initiatives
