The Nursing Services Trainer conducts training programs for Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) with an emphasis on regulatory compliance-driven and professional development learning that is hospital/unit specific. This position will also assist with curriculum development, staff training presentations, specialized behavior management training, and supporting Employee and Patient Safety related training programs.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Onboarding/Preceptorship Assistance
Orientation
- Manage shadow day of Nursing Services Orientation (NSO) week.
- Send coordination emails/notifications ahead of time to shadow person, unit, manager, and NSE Trainer.
- Coordinate transition between Phase 1 (Orientation/NSO) and Phase 2 (Preceptorship/getting to the floor).
- Handoff with MHT NSO Trainers
- Work with MHT NSO Trainers/NSEs and leadership to determine estimated length of preceptorship.
- Work with unit manager on coordinating preceptorship set-up.
- Identify who preceptor will be.
Preceptorship
- Oversee Preceptorship
- Schedule and ensure completion of weekly unit manager meetings for the first 2-4x weeks.
- Schedule and complete weekly onsite meetings for the first 2-4x weeks.
- Ensure completion of new employee self-assessments and reflections.
- Ensure completion of evaluations (program, preceptor).
- Communicate with preceptor to discuss any concerns.
- Ensure new employee is progressing on track with titration to fully functioning with their duties.
Support Facility Education Initiatives
- Support current employees to maintain skills, knowledge, and attitude for positive patient outcomes
- Conduct in-person observations to identify gaps/needs assessment for MHT (I-IV) roles
- Provide real time support and education by role-modeling side by side with MHT (I-IV)
- Documentation of observations/support in Microsoft form (10 per week)
- Collaborate with NSO-RN educators for smooth transition of employees from learning phases
- Facilitate onsite skills fair
- Coordinate/Support additional trainings
- Mock code green, blue, yellow
- Mock belongings searches
- Support onsite undergraduate nursing students in collaboration with NSE: Skills Fair/Student Educator
Schedule/Location
- This is position will typically work 8:00 am - 4:30pm M-F (no weekends, no holidays). Flexibility is needed to ensure the needs of all shifts are being met.
- This position will be required to float to all three (3) Southeastern Wisconsin campuses: Oconomowoc, West Allis and Brown Deer.
Additional Job Description:
Education/Training Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Social Work, or related field is required, OR six (6) years equivalent experience (group facilitation, training, and/or related behavioral health experience).
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a training/education or organizational development role. Must be able to use group facilitation and intervention skills. Strong ability to speak effectively in interpersonal situations and before large/small groups of employees, including executives and medical staff.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Computer proficiency and working knowledge of software programs, including Windows® packages.
- Experience with quality improvement, program evaluation and implementation of evidence-based practice preferred.
