SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, performs a wide variety of laboratory procedures in all specialty areas within the lab in accordance with the defined scope of practice, federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation requirements and certification standards; insures all required information and documentation are accurately, timely and correctly submitted. Adheres to the professional standards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Applying knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic and sterile techniques and phlebotomy equipment, performs blood collection procedures by venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques, selecting the phlebotomy site taking into consideration the condition of the patient and site, age group and the type of test requested by the health care provider. Perform finger or heel sticks for micro-samples of capillary blood on neonates to adults as required.
Insures that all specimens are properly, accurately and completely labeled, and that the proper documentation initiating testing is submitted with all required documentation. Contacts the appropriate patient care unit, physician office or outpatient clinic when specimens are incorrectly identified or submitted, obtaining additional needed information and/or patient information in order to insure proper testing and interpretive data is received.
Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, insuring that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
Follows uniform and standardized procedures for accomplishing cultures and testing on submitted tissue, body fluids and specimens including the steps, sequence of steps, strength of solutions, etc.
Conducts quality control procedures on instrumentation, equipment, reagents, stains and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports. Recognizes and immediately acts through appropriate means and channels regarding unusual instrumentation or reagent quality control results.
At all times, provides service excellence and service recovery in the delivery of services to patients and in interaction with internal and external partners.

PAY RANGE:
$26.54 - $38.08The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
