Location Description:
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Lenox, Iowa and often called the "Pearl of the Prairie" is where you can find small town living, focused on family and friends, with big city amenities not far from reach in Des Moines, Omaha, and Kansas City. Located in southwest Iowa, Taylor county, with a population of around 1400, the Lenox area reaches far beyond the city limits with beautiful and productive fields of corn, beans, and other croplands. Job Summary:
The Electrical and Automation Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical subsystems within the production facility. This position involves the proactive troubleshooting and maintenance of electronic and instrumentation systems, collaboration with internal and external resources, and active participation in continuous process improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Utilize appropriate tools (e.g., multimeter, software) to systematically troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues within the facility.
- Thoroughly troubleshoot and test the functionality of various process instrumentation components, including flow meters, level transmitters, and level switches.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external resources to resolve issues promptly and efficiently, ensuring minimal impact on operations.
- Pulling wire and running conduit.
- Proficiently interpret electrical schematics and user manuals, providing essential insights for effective troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
- Address and resolve hardware issues associated with PLCs (programmable logic controllers) and touchscreens.
- Perform basic network troubleshooting to identify and address control networking issues.
- Execute preventive maintenance activities in strict adherence to approved plans and work orders, ensuring equipment reliability.
- Deliver comprehensive training to team members on technical aspects related to electrical subsystems, fostering a knowledgeable and skilled workforce.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for continuous process improvements to enhance overall efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with management and engineering teams, providing valuable insights and technical expertise on projects as needed.
- Provide support to mechanics when necessary, contributing to a seamless resolution of cross-disciplinary issues.
- Adhere rigorously to safety policies, follow GMP’s, and maintain sanitary conditions, thereby ensuring optimal product quality and personnel safety.
- Promptly report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
- Strictly adhere to all safety policies and procedures to maintain a secure working environment.
- Take direct responsibility for Food Safety and Food Quality of MFI products.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications:
Job Qualifications:
Education:
- Possess a 2-year certification from college or technical school in Instrumentation Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Education can be substituted by 3+ years experience
Experience:
- Accumulate a minimum of three years of solid industrial electrical background in a manufacturing environment, with preference given to those with experience in a Food Processing Plant.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, welding, and pneumatics is advantageous.
Language Skills:
- Exhibit proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents in English.
- Demonstrate excellent writing skills for producing routine reports, procedural manuals, and correspondence in English.
- Display effective verbal communication skills in both one-on-one and group situations.
Mathematical Skills:
- Proficient in basic mathematical operations and the interpretation of data in various forms.
Reasoning Ability:
- Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to interpret technical instructions and handle both abstract and concrete variables.
Licenses, Certificates, Registrations:
- Electrical Apprentice or Journeyman’s license (Preferred)
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Exhibit experience with Allen Bradley/Rockwell automation systems.
- Be flexible and open to shift and weekend work as necessary.
