Location Description: Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities:
The Human Resources Manager provides leadership to the HR function serving as the liaison between management and employees at the Nowralk, IA manufacturing facility. The role provides consultation and partnership to plant leadership to promote positive employee relations, drive cultural values, and assist the business in meeting goals and objectives through use of data to build accountability and continuously improve. The position will participate in centralized HR projects that have impacts to the entire company and will lead project execution within their facilities.
- Provides work direction for staff employees by setting priorities and objectives, supervising performance of direct reports, conducting performance reviews, and performing other supervisory duties such as coaching, training, and coordinating work assignments
- Improves the effectiveness of human resource programs by developing strategies to improve employee satisfaction, management-employee relations, and working conditions. Evaluates current human resources policies and programs by visiting worksites and communicating with employees regarding related issues.
- Develops, implements and coordinates policies and procedures for Human Resource Department.
- Provides counseling and dispute resolution regarding employee issues to workers and management by consulting with supervisors and all levels of management. Determines appropriate responses to disputes and reviews consistency of actions.
- Recruits and hires qualified candidates following EEO and ADA hiring guidelines for exempt and non-exempt positions. Utilizes available resources to maintain an effective work force.
- Coordinates and oversees Affirmative Action programs. Administers affirmative action plan for work unit by tracking employee promotions, hires and transfers, reviewing year-end report calculations, developing future goals, and writing new affirmative action plans based on year-end information.
- Coordinates and interprets all company policies to assure consistent application and equitable employee relations.
- Directs the design and implementation of human resource development programs, ensuring that skills and competencies of employees meet requirements for current operation and future goals.
- Able to investigate employee complaints and charges in an objective manner and provide recommendations for resolution.
- Works as a resource for the Plant HR supervisor regarding company policies, benefits, payroll, and Affirmative Action.
- Reviews employee records for completion and accuracy. Such duties include reviewing information regarding vacations, performance evaluations, leave of absences, absenteeism, terminations, job descriptions, safety issues, insurance benefits, etc. Authorizes changes to employee records when necessary.
- Evaluates training programs to identify specific training needs by participating in various training programs and developing ways to achieve insight into training needs of work unit. Coordinates training sessions which includes training on workplace safety and on human resources policies and programs for supervisors.
- Conducts periodic meetings with employees and management personnel regarding various issues, including employee relations, workplace safety and ergonomics, and training programs.
- Provides support to the safety function.
- Assumes personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks.
- Adhere to Quality work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
- Ensures regulatory compliance at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College degree in Business with an Employee Relations or Human Resources concentration or equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of Human Resources Management generalist experience.
- Knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding employment practices.
- Ability to multi-task, deal with employees with diverse background and good problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
