Overview:
The Pharmacy Student works under the supervision and guidance of Mercy Pharmacists. The Student assists with the day-to-day inpatient and clinical pharmacy operations. The duties include IV preparation, compounding medications, order verification, picking medications, loading Omnicell machines, wasping medications, packaging medications, buying, assisting with clinical pharmacy functions, pulling out-of-date medications, answering nursing and medical staff questions, documenting clinical interventions in Pharmacy OneSource and other duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
Qualifications:
Education: Must have in-house training in IV preparation and sterile technique within 3 months of hire. Must have 3 years of school completed or successful completion of the foreign Pharmacist Graduate Equivalency exam.
Licensure: Requires valid Pharmacy Technician License to be registered with Missouri State Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.
Experience: Must have at least one year of pharmacy technician experience in our healthcare system or have at least five (5) years of pharmacy technician experience in a hospital setting.
Certification/Registration: Requires being registered by the National Pharmacy Technician Association as a Certified Pharmacy Technician and keeping this certification current. Must also have passed all written and practical exams in accordance with achievement program.
Skills & Knowledge:
Must be able to exhibit a higher command of job skills and be willing to train other technicians in applicable areas (if hired in as a Senior Technician, must strive to get higher command of job skills and be willing to train other technicians in applicable area).
Must have all medications and preparations checked by a registered pharmacist before it is dispensed.
