Job SummaryPosition responsible for the respiratory care clinical leadership and management of the selected service lines including program development, performance improvement activities, clinical quality monitoring and ensuring positive physician relationships; position responsible for recommending therapeutic and diagnostic procedures for patients with respiratory disorders, including patients in adult and/or pediatric/neonatal critical care units; functions as a resource to RCPI/RCPII/RCPIII. Participates and leads advanced patient education; is actively involved in departmental operations.

TMC Children's ECMOThe Pediatric ECMO Specialist team is a highly trained and dedicated unit that responds to emergency situations in our TMC Children's location. As an ECMO specialist, you will utilize the bypass machine to assist with rapid response procedures needed to save lives.The ideal candidate will be comfortable in high-stress situations and able to self-direct their care process. Experience with Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU or Cardiac Critical Care is required, ECMO Certification a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Bachelor degree required in Respiratory Care or related field.Experience: 5+ years experience with 4 years of critical care experience.License/Certifications: RRT required. Current Respiratory Care Practitioner License. BCLS and 3 of the following: ACLS, PALS, NRP, NPS, CPFT, RPFT, RPSGT, CPR Instructor, ACLS Instructor, NRP Instructor, PALS Instructor, or Asthma Certified Educator.Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds; prolonged standing; frequent walking, stooping and squatting; fine hand dexterity, eye-hand coordination, the ability to receive oral and written communication, and to communicate verbally and in writing are also necessary; visual ability to monitor instruments, computers and equipment, recognize alphanumeric characters, distinguish colors and observe physical characteristics are essential to this position.Demonstrates commitment to the Partners-in-Caring process by integrating our culture in all internal and external customer interactions; delivers on our brand promise of "we advance health" through innovation, accountability, empowerment, collaboration, compassion and results while ensuring one Memorial Hermann.
Principle Accountabilities:Mentors/leads/trains lesser experienced practitioners.Develops, implements and manages new programs/policies; refines existing programs/policies to ensure optimal patient outcomes.Determines training needs and ensures orientation of new employees and assesses competency levels of current employees.Monitors and manages the clinical quality for selected services; identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions.Provides expert respiratory advice and recommendations to physicians and other staff for population served.Performs duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency and a commitment to the CQI process; performs respiratory care quality assurance problem solving and takes appropriate actions.Performs all duties as described in the RCP III skills check-off.Performs two or more of the following; patient assessment, intubations, patient transports, ECMO, interprets arterial blood gases, pulmonary function testing, hemodynamics and chest x-rays as indicated in skills check-off for RCP III.Develops respiratory care plan and makes recommendations for patient managementServes a resource for RCP I, II and III.Communicates effectively with professional colleagues. Manages time effectively. Documents appropriately in the medical records and completes other documentation duties accurately and efficiently according to policies and procedures.Implements annual and semi-annual regulatory evaluation and training requirements (CPR, OSHA, MSDS, HIV and Fire Safety).Ensures safe care to patients, adhering to policies, procedures and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity and accuracy of practice.Executes new product and equipment evaluation process; participates in the evaluation of new respiratory care equipment.Provides in-service education and training to respiratory care personnel and present in-service and patient education programs to nurses, physicians and community.Remains current in respiratory care through continuing education, participation in in-service training and review of journals.Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.Other duties as assigned.
