Job Description
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate's degree
Licenses/Certifications: Certified Tumor Registrar certificate
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
- Five (5) years of oncology experience with at least three (3) years in abstracting.
- Excellent knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, and current cancer coding guidelines and cancer program standards from the Commission on Cancer.
- Ability to perform analysis using a personal computer and run registry reports.
Principal Accountabilities
- Reviews patient medical records to abstract data and accurately codes and enters data into cancer registry database.
- Attends cancer conferences and assists with analysis preparation and activities as required by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
- Provides analysis of abstracted cancer data including trends in volume and delivery of care.
- Performs quality control as required by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and ensures data integrity and completeness of treatment and follow-up of patient care.
- Acts as a content expert for lower level abstractors.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
