Job Summary and Qualifications
* This is a Full Time Day Shift position, Monday - Friday *
The Transplant Clinical Coordinator RN will perform patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on nursing process / outcomes for the bone marrow transplant patient and living donor. Our program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), and all tasks, duties, and areas strive to comply with the requirements that govern this accreditation as well as those of the Joint Commission and CMS. The coordinator will support recipient coordinators in finding suitable donors for stem cell donation. Critical thinking, time management skills, and computer literacy are necessary to successfully take on this role.
What You Will Do In This Role:
- Determine the predictable or unpredictable health status and health needs of patients (individual and family) through interpretation of health data and preventive practice in collaboration with patients and interdisciplinary health care team members.
- Responsible for coordinating activities to secure a donor for a blood cancer patient
- Utilize a systematic approach to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care.
- Implement nursing care within the RN’s scope of practice, including compliance with other laws that apply to the practice setting.
- Develop and implement teaching plans for patients concerning promotion, maintenance and restoration of health.
- Provide education, emotional support and age specific care to foster a partnership with the patient and significant others.
- Provide for the care of multiple patients (individual and family) either through planning of transplant care communicated to other members of the healthcare team.
- Communicate common patient (individual and family) responses and outcomes to therapeutic interventions as it relates to the transplant &/or living donor patient. Use critical thinking approach to analyze clinical data and current literature as a basis for decision making in nursing practice
- Provide information to licensed staff [LVN, RN] and to unlicensed staff in compliance with current BNE rules in a structured health setting for patients with predictable as well as unpredictable health needs.
- Act as liaison with the National Marrow Donor Program [NMDP] to assess human, financial and material resources of patients and families. Coordinate information flow among medical, ancillary, nursing, financial and insurance company staff.
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of an Accredited School of Professional Nursing, Bachelor's Degree required
- Current RN License in State of Texas or compact license
- Minimum of 1 year experience in acute care hospital within the last 3 years required
- Minimum of 1 year experience in management of bone marrow transplant patients preferred
- Background in oncology helpful
- OCN certification preferred
- BLS issued by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required
