Job Summary and Qualifications
What you will do in this role:
Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the Surgery and Procedural Service Lines.
- Use therapeutic communication in daily practice
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic PACU/Day Surgery environment
- Implement direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual PACU/Day Surgery patients
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process
- Provide emotional support of the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding health care
- Promote a supportive PACU/Day Surgery environment that treats patients, families and team members with dignity, respect and appreciation of their lifestyle, religion and culture
- Maintain high quality (age specific) care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, as assigned
- Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver · Provides immediate post-surgical care of patients ranging from adolescent to geriatrics who have had general anesthesia, epidural/spinal anesthesia and IV sedation
- Provides immediate pre-surgical/procedural care and education of patients ranging from adolescent to geriatrics who are going to surgery or a procedure
- Provide supervision of new employees, patient care technicians, student nurses and/or nurse externs
- Support the mission, vision and values of the organization · Assist the manager in planning, organization, directing and coordinating the clinical and management activities of an assigned area to include: Payroll, productivity reports, employee counseling, interviewing, performance appraisals, assist with occurrence report investigation, create and maintain initial and ongoing competencies, conduct annual evaluations, special initiatives etc.
- Precept Charge Nurses, maintain personnel files
- Supervise and facilitate the provision of safe patient care
- Support the development, implementation and revision of policies and procedures · Manage nursing and material resources
- Assist as clinical resource for unit specific medical devices, equipment and complex patient care activities Function in role of Charge Nurse and have ability to care for patients in the departments
- Other duties as assigned
What qualifications you will need:
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing, current RN license in State of Texas or compact license.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required within 24 months of hire into RN position.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in Critical Care in an acute care hospital within the last three years
- Two years PACU experience, five years preferred.
- Two to three years of PACU Charge Nurse responsibilities preferred
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS
