This position will be at the Washington Navy Yard. The incumbent serves as a Hull Systems Engineer directly supporting the Nimitz (CVN68) and Ford (CVN78) Class Aircraft Carrier Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and Hull System Engineering Manager. The candidate will serve as a System Engineer within the SEA 05V Hull Group. Occasional travel may be expected in this position.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide technical support and assess risk for technical decisions for Nimitz (CVN 68) and Ford (CVN 78) Class Ship Design Managers (SDMs) and System Engineering Manager (SEM)
- Provide engineering assessment, research, and problem resolution utilizing Nimitz (CVN 68) and/or Ford (CVN 78) operational experience.
- Provide responses to requests for technical assistance or adjudication received via letter, Departure from Specification (DFS), Liaison Action Request (LAR), Steam Plant Action Request (SPAR), Availability Work Package (AWP) Change Request
- Participate and coordinate technical approval letters for Ship Alteration (ShipAlts) and Technical Assessment Team (TAT) reviews for Ship Change Documents (SCDs)
- Review Technical Feedback Reports (TFBRs) for Planned Maintenance System (PMS) changes requiring Designated Technical Representative (DTR) review
- Coordinate with Engineering Agents, Technical Authorities, TYCOM, PMS 312, PMS 378, SUPSHIP Newport News, Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY), Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS), Ship Repair Facility (SRF), & other activities to resolve technical matters
- Review technical data packages, drawings, reports, logistics products, training, etc. and provide technical recommendations
- Develop formal presentations to brief to senior officials.
- Review ship, procurement, and systems specifications and submit proposals for changes
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree and three (3+) years of relevant experience.
- Experience as Naval Architect or Marine Engineer
- Experience with US Navy vessels structures, hull, and ship stability.
- Understanding of steel fabrications.
- Good technical writing and communication skills
Preferred/ Desired:
- Worked with or at a shipyard, Naval Surface/Undersea Warfare Center (NSWC/NUWC), Supervisor of Shipbuilding Command (SUPSHIP), Regional Maintenance Center (RMC), and/or Type Commander (TYCOM) supporting construction, operation, maintenance, modernization, and/or repair of shipboard electrical systems
- Experience working with technical authority (e.g. NAVSEA 05 and 08)
- Experience working with program managers (e.g. PEO Carriers, PMS 312, PMS 378, etc.) in an engineering role
Clearance Requirements:
- An active Secret Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship
