UNIT SUMMARY:

ICU Step Down- HICU is a 40-bed ICU step down unit which takes care of patients needing close monitoring and frequent interventions. Our patients are stable but critically ill and can change in condition rapidly.  Nurse to Patient Ratio is 1:4, based on acuity with support from Patient Care Techs. Each room is semi-private, and some rooms are equipped with telemetry monitoring. Our unit consists of patients requiring acute rehabilitation, support for chronic conditions and ventilator support.  

We take care of a wide variety of complex medical patients with acute and chronic disorders including post cardiac arrest, pneumonia, sepsis, acute hypoxic respiratory failure, CVA acute rehabilitation and other respiratory, cardiac renal and GI/GU conditions. Patients on our unit have specialty equipment and devices including G-tubes, PICC lines, chest tubes, High flow Nasal Cannula, tracheostomies, mechanical ventilation.  blood transfusions and non-titratable drips. 

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the RN, provides safe, age-appropriate patient care. Essential functions include: Basic Nursing Care/ADLs, observation and reporting, documentation, communication, assist with admissions, discharges and transfers and supportive duties.

REQUIREMENTS: 

• Formal working knowledge; equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college)
• Actively enrolled in an accredited, full time Register Nurse program and have completed nursing fundamentals
• CNA license issued by MBON
• American Heart Association CPR Certification
