Leidos is hiring an experienced Marketing Communications Specialist based at the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center's Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL) in McLean, Virginia. This advanced research lab and smart garage enable groundbreaking research and testing that allow the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to validate and refine new transportation services and technologies developed by Leidos and our partners.
About the Role:
As a Marketing Communications Specialist, you will join a team dedicated to creating marketing, communications, and training activities that promote cutting-edge advancements in intelligent transportation systems and automated vehicle technologies. These initiatives support the USDOT and their Intelligent Transportation Systems Joint Program Office (ITS JPO), Highly Automated Systems Safety Center of Excellence (HASS COE) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
As an individual contributor, you will collaborate with professionals in Transportation, Engineering, Software Development, and Artificial Intelligence to produce marketing and communications products that advance research, shape the industry's future, and encourage adoption of intelligent transportation systems and automated vehicle technologies.

Responsibilities Include:
- Develop concise and compelling summaries and briefings of technical research reports for both technical expert and layman audiences.
- Create and edit content for articles in technical and general media publications, digital newsletters, and technology transfer platforms.
- Produce, design, and edit content for social media, public announcements, fact sheets, presentations, training courses, and other associated media and materials.
- Manage communications, marketing, outreach, publications, and stakeholder engagement activities for various ITS JPO, HASS COE, and FHWA projects.
- Identify and implement improved processes and methodologies to enhance the effectiveness of communications, outreach, marketing, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Build and maintain trust with key stakeholders through clear communication and follow-through on commitments.
- Apply data-driven marketing best practices, utilizing data analysis and business analytics expertise to make strategic recommendations.
- Track, record, and present marketing and communications campaign performance information to internal teams and clients.
- Ensure all communications and marketing materials adhere to the organizations’ branding guidelines.
- Conduct market research to identify trends, target audiences, and competitive landscape insights.
- Create and execute comprehensive content strategies to support marketing objectives and campaigns.
- Develop and manage internal communications to keep employees informed and engaged.
- Oversee updates and improvements to the organization's website, ensuring it aligns with marketing goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust security clearance (which includes three years of immediate residency in the US).
- Proficiency in search engine optimization (SEO) and Google Analytics.
- Demonstrated experience in creating, designing, and editing clear, concise, and compelling content for various audiences and platforms, including digital and print media (e.g., social media, reports, newsletters, and presentations).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into easily understandable content for non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders through clear and consistent communication.
- Strong skills in managing multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
- Proficiency in analyzing marketing data and campaign performance to inform strategic decisions and recommendations.
- Familiarity with digital marketing strategies and tools, including website design, social media, email marketing, and event management to promote initiatives and engage with target audiences.
- Strong focus on accuracy and quality in all communications and marketing materials.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a DMV background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced understanding or experience in the transportation industry, engineering, automated vehicle technologies, Cooperative Driving Automation, intelligent transportation systems, or emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.
- Proven experience in managing and delivering projects on time and within budget, with a strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
- Experience as a Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act subject matter expert, ensuring content is compliant as it relates to accessible documents and electronic media.
- Knowledge of web design and development.

Pay Range:Pay Range $49,400.00 - $89,300.00
