Leidos is seeking a passionate, driven, and experienced Attorney to lead our Global Privacy Office. This is an exciting opportunity to advise and partner with stakeholders across the organization, manage a dynamic team of privacy professionals, and shape Leidos’ privacy program.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Cyber & Privacy, the selected candidate will provide timely and practical advice on a range of privacy and data protection matters, effectively assess and communicate risk to the organization, and design and implement privacy-centric processes that address risk across the enterprise. The successful candidate will provide legal support to and collaborate with partners across Leidos’ corporate functions and business sectors and will represent and advocate Leidos’ approach to privacy in engagements with external partners.
The candidate must exhibit sound judgment, solid business acumen, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Prior management experience is preferred. Travel may occasionally be required.
This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days of onsite work requirement (based on meetings, work schedules, etc) from our Reston HQ - VA. Candidates must live within commuting distance to Reston, VA.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Handling privacy and data protection-related inquiries from stakeholders across the organization and providing actionable advice and counsel
- Managing the work of the Global Privacy Office to efficiently support the organization and execute Leidos’ privacy program
- Provide guidance and support to the privacy professionals comprising the Global Privacy Office and effectively leverage their skills and experience to promote privacy best practices across the organization
- Communicating privacy and data protection risks, mitigations, and developments to senior leadership and executives
- Reviewing, drafting and updating policies, procedures, and notices addressing the handling of personal information
- Supporting Leidos’ incident response teams in investigating and addressing security incidents
- Overseeing Leidos’ process for responding to data subject rights requests
- Providing advice on the development and implementation of the organization’s privacy program
- Developing guidelines, training, and tools to support accountability and compliance across the organization
- Monitoring relevant legislative developments, regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions relating to privacy and data protection in the jurisdictions in which the company operates
- Reviewing, drafting and negotiating privacy and data protection terms in various types of agreements (e.g., vendor/service provider agreements, customer agreements, data processing and data usage agreements, Business Associate Agreements)
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from a U.S. accredited law school
- Membership in the Virginia State Bar or the ability to become registered in-house counsel in Virginia.
- Minimum of 9+ years of experience advising on privacy/data protection compliance requirements (candidates with 12+ years of privacy compliance advisory experience is highly preferred)
- Prior management experience, including setting team priorities, balancing competing priorities, and assigning tasks to team members.
- Expert-level understanding of global privacy and data protection laws, regulations and standards, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the California Privacy Rights Act, the U.S. Privacy Act, state breach notification laws, the General Data Protection Regulation, the U.K. GDPR, and the Australian Privacy Act 1988
- Demonstrated transactional experience, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating privacy and data protection contract terms and agreements, such as Business Associate Agreements and data protection agreements
- Experience advising a global organization on compliance with privacy and data protection requirements and best practices

We may consider an offer above the posted salary range depending on the experience and skills a candidate brings to the position.

Pay Range:Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
