The Leidos Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) has an opening for an experienced Data Stewardin Houston, Texas at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC).
The Data Steward will work with the NASA Human Health and Performance Directorate (HHPD) Data Integration Manager to define and enforce data cataloging, including: tagging, data quality, metadata, and security. This position serves as a key resource and important intermediary between the data owner and the data catalog. The Data Steward is responsible for the effective administration, utilization, and growth of the data catalog as well as the identification of metadata and data tagging of business systems. This role will aid in the end-to-end delivery of data management services through collaboration with data owners, risk custodians, and civil servant leadership to ensure high quality deliverables are on time and within budget to support data management across HHPD.
US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Drive the analysis and resolution of data governance issues (e.g., data ownership and system of record determination, coherent usage) in partnership with data owners and custodians.
- Collect and administer updates to business metadata, assuring data is classified and the metadata is enriched.
- Develop documentation of end-to-end data flows with the goal of determining enterprise data impacts.
- Identify new opportunities to enhance the value of the organization’s information.
- Support and own the implementation of data management and governance technologies for data stewardship, metadata management, and data integration efforts.
- Continually curate the data catalog, including: performing validation of metadata, data tagging, and inactivation of obsolete data.
- Work directly with business stakeholders to develop data naming rules to allow for easy identification.
- Proactively take an active role in the development and refinement of Data Governance and Enablement implementation.
- Drive data governance adoption, embedding governance practices, and enhancing data-driven culture.
- Act as a data management SME, consulting with stakeholders to improve data governance literacy, advance data maturity, and develop strategic data initiatives.
- Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional teams. Encourage a collaborative atmosphere by partnering with various stakeholders to facilitate change and enhance data governance adoption.
- Identify data governance process gaps and work with stakeholders to design solutions to address them.
- Build and support a strong community of data owners and data stewards. Provide guidance and support to enhance data stewardship capabilities.
- Provide training and mentorship to Data Stewards and other stakeholders in best practices for data management.
- Participate in the development of data polices including data retention, data privacy, data use, and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 12+ years of experience in a data management or data governance field; or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience with data management and data governance tools such as OpenMetadata
- Prior experience in the role of data steward and/or data governance manager with exposure to data governance tools and processes
- Strong understanding of data cataloging, data lineage, and metadata concepts
- Strong research, problem determination and solution skills
- Strong verbal/written communication and collaboration skills
- Shows initiative and exhibits a “can-do” attitude
- Able to see the big picture and end-to-end connection points associated with data and systems
- Must be able to lead projects and work independently
- Proficient in reading/understanding Entity Relationship and logical data models
- Solid understanding of available data technology architectures and frameworks
- Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data subject to HIPAA Compliance or other Federal regulations that impact health entities
- Intermediate knowledge of a subset of analytical approaches (ex. statistical analysis, predictive modeling, visual analytics)
- Ability to interpret technical documentation and models, including software and database specifications

Pay Range:Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00
