Leidos National Security Sector is seeking a senior Data Architect to support an enterprise IT program in northern Virginia. Our client requires a data architect/scientist with strong skills in PL/SQL, Java, AWS, BASH, Linux, and Oracle familiarity. A successful candidate will have an analytical mind with a forward-leaning attitude and experience as a database programmer. They will leverage their strong communication skills to collaborate with both the development and the management teams, work independently, come up with ad hoc solutions, and be comfortable with JIRA, Git, & Nexus. This is exciting work with a direct mission impact.
This position requires a current and active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance. We do not have the ability to sponsor candidates for clearance processing.
Our client has multiple application teams supporting an IT portfolio which is the central repository for all client-created applications. The client provides state of the art systems on cloud, physical systems, and applications based on products such as AWS, Oracle, SharePoint, and other web-based solutions. They require specialized data architecture to develop solutions which ensure the client’s information is stored effectively and securely, system requirements are analyzed, and data is migrated seamlessly. While not a complete list, the portfolio contains such applications as:
- A custom production application with a central repository for the search and discovery of internal documents, sensitive data, and associated artifacts.
- A custom production application which provides workflow and research with the ability to review, disposition, build a profile and update or nominate candidates to other Partner organizations.
- A targeting and knowledge management tool which stores products in a centralized repository making it easy for search and discovery.
In this role the Data Architect/Scientist shall:
- Develop data and metadata policies and procedures for structural design and development to build, maintain and leverage the data model, ensuring integration with corporate data standards.
- Monitor industry trends and directions in database technology and tools.
- Develop and present substantive technical recommendations to the client.
- Oversee the design, evaluation, selection, implementation and support of major databases and metadata structures.
- Review and evaluate database performance and risk and financial analysis feasibility studies.
- Oversee the strategic structural design and development of databases and metadata.
- Provide technical direction to the maintenance of major existing databases supporting evolving applications and business processes.
- Provide comprehensive assessments of the technical characteristics of proposals and alternatives considered to optimize database performance.
- Provide extensive technical, strategic advice and guidance in the creation and implementation of new data standards and databases.
- Provide technical oversight and direction to designated boards for integrating new technology or major new mission capabilities into the metadata and data standards and structures.
- Review and assess technical proposals requesting changes or upgrades to the existing databases.
- Serve as the lead technical resource in the strategic oversight and planning of data models and database structural design and development.
- Strategically plan new designs for integration into a database structure, using knowledge of the characteristics of the systems being added to the structure and the specifications for database interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal database performance.
- Develop methods of ensuring data incompatibilities among systems are systematically eliminated
- Diagnose, isolate and expediently resolve complex problems pertaining to data infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance.
- Typically requires a Masters with 15 – 20 years of prior relevant experience or Doctorate with 13 – 16 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted for specified degrees.
- Demonstrated experience with client’s networks, systems and services.
- Demonstrated experience in data architecture.
- Demonstrated experience with and understanding of database structure principles.
- Demonstrated experience in data modeling and design, including SQL development and database administration.
- Demonstrated experience in data visualization, data migration and data modeling.
- Demonstrated experience in relational database management systems (DBMS).
- Demonstrated experience in DBMS software, including SQL Server.
- Demonstrated experience in database and cloud computing design, architectures and data lakes.
- Demonstrated experience in configuration and administration of enterprise level data stores, ETL and ELT methods, and batch and streaming data transport.
- Demonstrated experience gathering and analyzing system requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with Version control systems such as Git.
- Demonstrated experience with programming languages Java and Python.
- Demonstrated experience with Linux, Unix, Solaris and Windows.
- Demonstrated experience with Agile development methodologies and JIRA.
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, technically challenging area; ability to anticipate and manage changes or problems; assess impacts and recommend sound solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in systems development, including system development life cycle, project management approaches and requirements, and design and testing techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience delivering solutions with AWS cloud services.
- Demonstrated experience with AWS Cloud storage technologies including RDS, DynamoDB and S3.
- Demonstrated experience in database technologies to include but not limited to Oracle, SQL Server, and Postgres.
- Demonstrated experience with Oracle Databases.
- Demonstrated experience with Full stack environment.
- Demonstrated experience building automation tools such as Gradle, Maven.
- Demonstrated experience with the development of system prototypes and proof of concept in order to demonstrate proper application of design principles.
- Demonstrated experience with the client’s authentication and authorization process.
- Demonstrated experience with supporting enterprise level production systems.
- Demonstrated experience briefing technical topics to a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated experience in strong oral and written communication.
- AWS Certification or other relevant certifications.

Pay Range:Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
