Leidos is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as Materials and Process Engineer to support the Advanced Materials Department. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.
The Advanced Materials Department is a multi-disciplinary team that provides materials engineering expertise for every phase of a program. With backgrounds in materials science, chemistry/chemical engineering, physics, among others, the department has experience in executing a variety of efforts from R&D, to prototype development, to supporting design and build tasks for manufacturing. Beyond subject matter expertise, the department has the analysis equipment, multi-physics modelling capability and experimental lab space to support activities ranging from proof-of-concept experimentation to manufacturing support.
Primary Responsibilities
As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, the successful candidate will serve as Materials and Process Engineer. This position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:
- Support multiple Leidos programs in the areas of material selection, metallurgy and fabrication, composites, ceramics, process improvement opportunities, root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations, Parts, Materials, & Processes (PM&P) Plans, and qualification activities.
- Provide M&P support to mechanical and aerospace design and drawings development.
- Investigate materials and process non-conformance issues and provide recommended problem resolutions to program management teams
- Serve as a liaison between the Advanced Materials Dept and other Leidos organizations to ensure all material and process selections, process improvements, and RCCA activities meet program goals and objectives.
- Conduct a variety of materials characterization and mechanical tests, including test planning, writing and editing procedures, operating test equipment, reporting results, and coordinating with customers to ensure tests and investigations meet project objectives.
- Coordinate with procurement management and subcontracted suppliers to mitigate non-conformances before they occur.
- Coordinate internally and externally with our suppliers on manufacturing process improvements and controls.
- Efficiently resolve non-conformances to limit the impact to program schedule and cost.
- Provide technical expertise during new supplier evaluations to aid in supplier risk analysis.
- Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches.
- Working closely with their mentor on various support tasks beneficial to both the engineer’s skill development and to the needs of the programs the department supports.

Familiarity with AMS, ASTM, NASA, MIL-STD, ISO 9001/AS 9100, and other industry specifications.

Pay Range:Pay Range $65,000.00 - $117,500.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
