What you’ll get to do
- To coordinate drilling programs with local area management, to produce a drilling proposal, obtain bids for work and manage the drilling contract.
- Manage all aspects of field activities for brownfield/greenfield exploration projects.
- To use drilling data to accurately predict the quantity, quality, and location of suitable reserves.
- To produce reserve reports, maps and supporting information following the evaluation of a deposit.
- Identify and understand quality issues with the deposit that could result in sales or production issues at the site.
- To oversee the appropriate sampling and testing of the material and to understand the meaning of the results.
- Evaluating all geological information to develop geologic models and accurate mine development plans.
- To review historic data to re-evaluate existing operations.
- Evaluate Heidelberg Materials existing reserve base in conjunction with the mine planning engineers.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual Heidelberg Materials Reserve Report.
- To assist local area management in identifying areas of search for potential mineral acquisitions using a variety of techniques including literature searches, aerial photographic review, well log review, prior drilling review etc.
Essential Experience and Skills
- BS in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geology with an Engineering Geology focus.
- Desired MS or higher in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology.
- Registered Professional Geologist.
- Minimum three years’ experience in the minerals/quarrying industry.
- Excellent team skills.
- Project management experience.
- Proficient use of MS Office Suite, ArcGIS, Rockworks, AutoCAD, and Carlson.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and/or remote.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Diplomacy and sensitivity to highly confidential information.
- Flexibility to weekend/evening working, start early or close late occasionally, when required.
- Travel in NAM will be up to 30-40% of your time.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Special functional knowledge and experience related to drilling and exploration
- Experience with sonic and diamond core drilling project management
- Knowledge of the cement and aggregates businesses
- Cross-functional understanding
- Desired MS or higher in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
Work Environment
- Role operates primarily a professional corporate office environment, but requires conducting business at remote locations, manufacturing locations, and job sites where the conditions include moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels
