Heidelberg Materials seeks to future-proof its cement operations with increased digitization and operational capability. The overarching goal is to centralize operations and to achieve operational excellence. For this purpose, it is establishing the Heidelberg Materials Remote Optimization Center (HROC) in its headquarters in Irving, Texas.
As the Director of Operational Support, you will be responsible for managing and supervising the Process, Maintenance, Quality, and Mining departments to ensure work is completed efficiently and cost-effectively. The overall goal of this department is to assist the operating units through direct, remote, and on-site support of operating activities, training of personnel, and proposing and developing projects. While evaluating projects, future projects, and current operations, all individuals must understand the impact their work has on the operating unit with respect to performance and operating costs. The operations team will closely cooperate with the functional support teams of the HROC.

- Leadership and Strategic Direction
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the CCC engineering functions, aligning with the company's overall objectives and goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize operational efficiency, improve productivity, and enhance cost-effectiveness across all engineering support services.
- Team Management and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Set clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support professional growth and development opportunities for team members.
- Process Optimization, Innovation Services:
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process efficiency, reliability, and sustainability within the cement plants.
- Help Identifying and implement innovative manufacturing equipment and digital technologies and best practices to optimize production processes and reduce environmental impact.
- Maintenance and Reliability Services:
- Oversee the development and execution of comprehensive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and availability of plant equipment and infrastructure.
- Support the implementation of predictive and preventive maintenance strategies to minimize downtime and maximize equipment lifespan together with HROC and the plants.
- Project Support
- Support the Engineering Department on the definition of basis of design, operability and maintainability of new equipment and installations.
- Mining Operations Services:
- Provide ongoing cement plan mine planning services to the cement plants to insure resources are optimized. Provide annual updating of cement plant reserves and resources according to PERC.
- Collaborate with plant teams to optimize mining processes, minimize environmental impact, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assess and participate in the development of new reserves and resources to meet company objectives.
- Training Development and Execution:
- Develop and implement training programs for plant staff to enhance their skills, knowledge, and competencies in areas such as plant management, process optimization, mining optimization and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and deliver training modules tailored to the specific needs of different roles within the organization.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key internal stakeholders, including plant managers, senior leadership, and functional heads.
- Collaborate closely with other departments, such as production, quality assurance, and logistics, to support cross-functional initiatives and achieve operational excellence.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in engineering and operations management within the cement industry or related heavy manufacturing sector.
- Strong technical expertise in process optimization, maintenance management, and clinker/cement quality and mining operations.
- Proven track record of driving operational excellence, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, and achieving measurable results.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans and initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
- Willingness to travel extensively to visit plant sites, supervise and follow up on initiatives and engage with stakeholders across North America.
