Heidelberg Materials is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Director of Mine and Mineral Resources role within the Competence Center of Aggregates and Asphalt (CCA) team, based at our corporate office in Irving, TX. The role reports directly to the Vice President of CCA North America.
Your team will undertake site investigation and use the data to produce 3D geological models, final pit shells and quarry development plans required to support reserve and resource estimation. You will provide advice and guidance to ensure that the quarry development proposals outline the safe, sustainable, and most economical recovery of the minerals at our sites. You will also ensure that accurate geological, and geotechnical information and advice is provided to the operations teams and that it is properly implemented on site. You will be the subject matter expert for geology and mine planning relating to greenfield exploration, and due diligence for expansion and acquisition projects.
What you’ll get to do
- Provide leadership, management and advice relating to reserves and resource estimation and reporting for +180 aggregate sites across North America.
- Manage the geology and mine planning personnel producing pit shell designs, geological models, resources and reserve calculations, quarry development plans, waste management plans, stripping plans, and reclamation plans.
- Manage reserves and resources data and supporting documents using the ‘in house’ Land and Minerals database, Magma.
- Ensure that our operations have sufficiently detailed phased development plans to outline the key development and cost milestones over the Life of Mine
- Work with the geologists, mining engineers and site management to ensure the safe, sustainable and most economic means of mineral extraction and reclamation of all our sites.
- Provide geotechnical leadership and support to ensure the stability of excavations, dumps, waste ponds and freshwater lagoons.
- Be the geology and mine planning subject matter expert for mergers, acquisitions, and capital projects.
- Work with Real Estate and Environment teams to ensure that reclamation plans are legally compliant, fully funded, and maximize the value of mined out properties.
- Work with the Aggregates Academy to deliver geology, mine planning and quarry development training to operational personnel.
- Must be willing to travel 50% within the United States and Canada.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Bachelor of Science in Geology, Mining Engineering, or similar subject from an accredited institution.
- Minimum ten years’ experience in aggregate geology and mine planning.
- Thorough knowledge of the PERC Reporting Standard and can meet the Competent Person criteria under that standard.
- Have excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills and can effectively communicate information to all levels of the business.
- Ability to commission, read and summarize technical reports for less technical personnel.
- Have excellent team skills and project management experience.
- Ability to motivate, manage and develop professional personnel.
- Have diplomacy and sensitivity to highly confidential information.
- Willingness to travel across the United States and Canada up to 50% of your time with flexibility to work weekends, and experience early starts and late finishes as and when required.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Experienced in gathering all data necessary to formulate produce estimates, plans and details. Producing own reports, plans, sections, and details as required to support mining operations.
- Knowledge and ability to use Carlson/Auto-Cad and/or other geological, mining or earthwork design programs, and ArcGIS.
- Experience of working in other areas of the extraction business such as land management, operations, or other technical disciplines
