This exciting opportunity is ideal for an experienced Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) Fleet Manager who can drive operational excellence in the NAM HME Fleet ensuring that leading HME practices are shared, implemented, and sustained. This position is at the forefront of HME Fleet Management supporting Heidelberg Materials North America. This new role will be located within the North American (NAM) Competency Center Aggregates and Asphalt (CCA) team. CCA are a global knowledge, resources and support hub serving internal customers within Heidelberg Materials and stands with the business to help drive improvement across the operations. Taking direction from the Global HME Fleet Manager the role will also work in collaboration with other Area HME Fleet Managers and the CCA team. This position is integral to the success of the NAM Heidelberg Materials HME fleet and is regarded as the subject matter expert on HME for NAM.
What you’ll get to do
- Drive HME cost efficiencies, availability, and productivity by increasing transparency, building a structured approach to planning, and managing HME fleet size, replacement, and maintenance, in coordination with BU management and operations
- Deliver comprehensive and accurate HME Fleet data management systems.
- Drive improved RCO (Result from current operations) relative to HME performance utilization, OPEX and CAPEX, improving TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).
- Become the SME for HME Fleet Management for Heidelberg Materials NAM, including business lines of aggregates, asphalt, cement, ready-mixed concrete and recycling.
- Provide HME technical leadership and strategic guidance to support the North America HME Fleet.
- Implement HME continuous improvement strategies across North America.
- Monitor and improve performance metrics (KPI systems) to systematically evaluate the performance of the NAM HME Fleet and utilize these metrics to drive cost reduction improvements and efficiency gains.
- Liaise with other Heidelberg Materials HME Fleet Managers to promote and support global initiatives and objectives.
- Ensure leading practices, solutions, and new ideas are shared and implemented, leveraging regional expertise in order to drive HME operational excellence.
- Collaborate with leadership team members to drive Fleet Management and Load and Haul process elements.
- Maintain relationships with HME OEM’s so that we are aware of innovations and technology that can improve efficiencies and/or reduce costs.
- Stay connected to emerging technologies which can positive influence HME in automation technology and digital solutions.
- Work with the global HME Fleet Management team to help create and maintain standards and guidelines.
- Drive the local use of the Global HME database for Fleet Planning, Maintenance and Repairs.
- Create and deliver 5-year HME Fleet Plans by business line for NAM including rightsizing, cascading and & prioritization of CAPEX including working with HME stakeholders such as Procurement & Finance.
- Create and implement effective local process assessments driving improvements in operating performance, maintenance management, costs, and productivity.
- Broadly build Business Unit contacts & relationships to ensure strong support and effective implementation.
- Assist the Global Fleet Management team in the creation of training materials.
Essential Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in HME experience demonstrating solid HME knowledge and an operations management aptitude.
- Strong stakeholder management, influence, and negotiation skills.
- Strong HME analytical skills with the ability to develop detailed data reports, and present to key business stakeholders including Operations Management, and Corporate Management level.
- Familiarity with major OEMs including Caterpillar, Hitachi, John Deere, Komatsu, Liebherr and Volvo.
- Strong intercultural competence and high service orientation, comfortable working with all levels of staff from operations to management
- A continuous improvement mindset, process methodology skills, and change management capability.
- Entrepreneurial management skills, financial acumen, and the demonstrated ability to consider long-term risks and opportunities.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Proficient use of MS Office, MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Proactive, committed, goal driven with a high degree of focus and sense of purpose demonstrating a high level of resilience and adaptability
- Ability to work well individually or within a team
- Commitment to sustainable management, championing safety and complying with anti-trust, safety, and environmental laws and regulations.
- Ability to travel for site visits as needed.
- Ex-Diesel mechanics and tradespeople with post-trade Degree level education are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Experience and Skills
- HME Diesel Technician (mechanic) with HME operations experience in Extractive Industries (Quarrying or Mining) or;
- HME operations experience of 10+ years in a HME related industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or Accounting.
