Windham Hospital in partnership with the Windham Board of Education is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide health care to Windham High, grades 9-12, at the School Based Health Center, located in Windham, CT.
School Advanced Practitioner Role Scope
- The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Nurse Practitioner works independently using clinical knowledge and judgment to provide care to students who are part of the SBHC, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. The Nurse Practitioner will work as an adjunct to the student’s primary care provider and medical team and will perform important tasks including conducting physicals, administering medications/immunizations, ordering tests, urgent care needs, reproductive care, and educating patients/caregivers about preventive care.
- The advanced practitioner will provide age-specific care, rendering a comprehensive range of services to the student including health promotion and health maintenance.
- The School Based Health Center is not considered a student’s medical home and therefore coordination with the student’s PCP may be required.
- The APP will follow accepted and standard protocols of practice using a high-level of expertise and independence and appropriately prescribe and administer medications.
- The APP will also consult with other members of the health center and school nurses as well as a collaborating pediatrician.
- Evaluating the quality and overall effectiveness of the services provided are critical components of the position.
- The APP will supervise daily operations, review and verify timekeeping, and complete performance appraisals for SBHC staff members

Qualifications
Advanced Practitioner Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
- Licensed and certified, or eligible to be certified, as a Physician Assistant or National Board Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) required
- Experience working with pediatric patients in a school based environment is highly preferred
- 1-3 years of family-oriented clinical experience preferred
- Management and program development expertise preferred
