The Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital is responsible for treating a wide variety of patients, from basic ailments to the most complex traumas, at our Level-I Trauma Center. This unit has some the highest acuity in the region, requiring our nurses to think and act quickly to meet the varying needs of our patients. Comprised of 109 beds, the unit is subdivided into different pods, including the Purple Pod for Behavioral Health patients and Red Pod for the most severe cases. We are also a primary stroke and cardiac center. Successful healthcare providers on this unit are highly skilled, agile and resilient; with the ability to work together to make sure we have a safe environment and provide the highest level of satisfaction to our staff and patients.
Our Emergency Department-based Observation Unit at Hartford Hospital is a fast-paced, 20 bed unit devoted to the management of patients requiring 24-48 hours to determine whether a patient can be safely discharged or admitted to the hospital. Our team of Registered Nurses, ED Providers, Hospitalists, Techs, administrative professionals and support staff is dedicated specifically to this unit, where we continue to provide safe, personalized, compassionate care to all our patients. This unit’s focus is on the provision of care to patients requiring a period of Observation before a medical decision can be made regarding patient admission vs. discharge. All rooms are equipped with new, state of the art technology to support even the most acute of patients.
Functioning within the framework for professional nursing practice, the Patient Unit Manager supports and assists the Director. This position has 24 hour accountability for managing resources (human, material and financial), to ensure quality, cost-effective delivery of patient services for in a defined area across the continuum. This is accomplished by direct action, delegation, coaching and support of unit-based shared governance councils. Reports to Director of Service.
Qualifications
• Current Connecticut Registered Nurse license required.• Bachelor's degree required.* Master's degree preferred.• Certification in nursing administration is required within 5 years of assuming position.• Minimum 3 years relevant clinical experience.• CPR certification preferred.• Demonstrated progressive leadership skills.• Strong written and verbal communications skills required.We take great care of careers.
