How You'll Make this Internship Opportunity Your OwnOur
Nursing/Healthcare Research Internship is designed to cultivate proactive, informed healthcare and/or health research professionals. This internship provides individuals with foundational knowledge and skillsets to be successful in future federal government healthcare research and related roles. As an intern in nursing/healthcare research or a related area, you will spend the summer learning by participating in various educational activities and the performance of research assistant activities within an established Traumatic Brain Injury research protocol.
A Day in the Life
- Work side-by-side with GDIT professionals performing Traumatic Brain Injury research on a military installation.
- Conduct clinical study activities as outlined in study protocol and within local and federal regulations and guidelines.
- Recruit, enroll, and obtain informed consent from active-duty military study participants.
- Acquire research phlebotomy skills in order to collect (via venipuncture) and prepare blood for testing.
- Assist in packaging and shipping biological samples to an outside lab.
- Administer symptom surveys and abbreviated cognitive testing instruments.
- Enter data into an established Electronic Data Capture tool (REDCap).
- Assist with required chart abstractions.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Research team in routine planning and project meetings.
The Must-Haves• Education: Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree program in nursing, research, or other related healthcare field from a United States-based college or university.• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, and Teams)• Genuine interest in healthcare research or related fields.• CITI Training - Good Clinical Practice and Responsible Conduct of Research• Security Clearance Level: Tier 1 eligible (must be able to obtain clearance)• US Citizenship Required• Location: Ft. Liberty, N.C., On-site

What You Offer as a Stand-Out Candidate• Previous work experience related to research or healthcare.• Basic Life Support Certification• Knowledge of and/or experience with military culture.• Completion of Junior level course work in a bachelor of Nursing program.• Phlebotomy training and/or experience.GDIT interns are paid and full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 consecutive weeks.
