Job Description SummaryGE Aviation's Hybrid Electric Systems team is developing components for future advanced propulsion systems. The Mechanical Systems Sr. Engineer will play a critical role on the Hybrid Electric team, demonstrating leadership in developing advanced technologies, executing business priorities, operational strategy, and engaging across GE globally and with industrial and academic partners. The Engineer contributes directly to GE Aviation's hybrid electric capability including the development of the joint NASA Electric Powertrain Flight Demonstrator program and GE's RISE (Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engines) program.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Design system/components for integration of a motor/generator to support electrified propulsion.
- Own prototype parts including all aspects of design, analysis, drawings and manufacturing.
- Primary responsibility in developing bearing design and architecture for new motor/generator application. This individual will also play a key role in the lube system architecture for the machine.
- Partner with electrical system, mechanical and thermal, manufacturing and test teams to advance the development of hybrid electric systems.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
- In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- Support the development of strategy for motor/generator design, including strategy for policy formulation.
- Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Disciplinary Engineering and Science
Desired Characteristics
- Prior work experience in bearing design and architecture, especially with experience in aerospace applications.
- Prior work experience in mechanical systems design and/or lube system architecture.
- Beneficial to have experience or familiarity with aerospace power generation products, electro-magnetic design, and/or transient/dynamic electric system theory and analysis.
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.
