Overview:
This position is responsible for designing, directing, and managing assurance activities related to enterprise-wide initiatives and transformational change activities. Supports and assists with the strategic development and implementation of the operational plans, policies, and mission within Internal Audit to protect organizational assets while ensuring compliance with regulations. Collaborates with other members of executive management team to build and foster strategic, productive, and influential relationships to align departmental and Business Unit strategy or direction with the overall goals of the Bank. Assists with the development of procedures to support audit infrastructure and personnel. Will serve as a non-voting member/attendee to the Board of Directors' Committees and key management sub-committees and building influential relationships with key parties.
Hybrid role in Raleigh on Charlotte.
Responsibilities:
- Business Strategy – Oversees the audit scope and strategy for audit plan/program for areas of responsibility. Applies knowledge of Large Financial Institution regulatory requirements, supervisory expectations and industry best practices in the design and execution of work. Analyzes business processes to identify efficiencies, key objectives, and optimal level of control and risks. Utilizes external networks and other resources to keep current on and lead discussions on industry risks, regulatory updates, and pronouncements to assess relevancy and impact to the Bank. Keeps senior management and staff informed of trends and best practices and regulations affecting internal audit which contribute to the development of the three-year audit plan. Aides in the development of internal audit policies and procedures that have a significant impact on the function.
- Risk Mitigation – Oversees and leads the investigation and management of key inter-dependencies that impact business unit and corporate risk. Monitors and makes recommendations on risk assessment strategies, goals, and processes to ensure maximum coverage of the Bank. Supports the annual risk assessment and recommends high leverage action to reduce risks.
- Managerial Functions - Establishes an internal audit plan and assigns activities for assigned areas of responsibility. Directs short and long-term development of associates across the department. Provides leadership and oversight to Internal Audit. Identifies projects, functions, or areas to be audited. Manages the recruitment, training, development, retention, and evaluation of direct and indirect reports. Provides audit and professional development to enhance performance. Oversees special projects and other initiatives.
- Relationship Development - Collaborates with Bank senior and functional leadership, building and fostering strategic, productive, and influential relationships. Addresses and provides recommendations on complex risks and regulatory issues. Maintains influential relationships with management, external auditors, and regulators. Serves on Board of Director committees such as Audit and Board Risk Committees and liaises with key parties to represent department.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience in Audit
including at least 10 years in a progressively responsible Audit management or leadership role
including experience with transformational change and Large Financial Institution regulatory requirements
OR High School Diploma or GED and 16 years of experience in Audit
including at least 10 years in a progressively responsible Audit management or leadership role
including experience with transformational change and Large Financial Institution regulatory requirements
License or Certification Type: Designation as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required
Position Specific Skills
- Demonstrated ability leading teams performing internal audit assurance of transformational change.
- Applied knowledge of regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations at a Large Financial Institution.
- Knowledge of risk management frameworks, including experiential knowledge either designing, implementing, overseeing, or providing assurance on risk management activities at a Large Financial Institution.
- Knowledge of regulatory major areas of focus including Compliance, Model Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Operational Risk management, Data Governance, etc.
- Proficient in project assurance methodologies, including dynamic execution of assurance coverage and timely, relevant reporting to stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity while designing and executing assurance strategies and reporting on results.
- Ability to demonstrate courage and independence when communicating with executive management, senior leadership, and regulatory bodies when presenting complex issues, recommendations, and audit opinions.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP”) SEC Rules, and SOX Act
- Ability to travel as needed
